PC Build advice

Honestly it's clearly marked in the price, the i7 is yards ahead. Games that will use more threads destroy the Pentium - single core performance is better, re-selling value will be higher. Better performance, rendering, recording, gaming, whatever. Tbh if I had a £2k budget I wouldn't even have a smidgen of a thought of getting a Pentium
Yes, the Pentium is a great budget chip, but for this budget i7 is the way to go.

I may of understood the charts I don't know but they seem to me not far away

Well that was a odd review they put together.

The issue was they didn't run any multi-threaded games (not Hyperthreading, this is different, as Cinebench is Hyperthreaded) so we only saw core peroformance, that is why the Overclocked Pentium had a MUCH MUCH better improvement to the i7.

Like i (and others have said) it is a very capable chip and would be awesome for a small gaming rig (£500-£600) but with £2k in your pocket a Pentium and a 780/290 in your rig wouldn't sit right.

The 4790k is the way to go.

Oh, and it was weird they only had the results for those two chip in the review, the games could have been heavily GPU focused and the Pentium dead last and the i7 dead top (with very little difference through the feild, we'll never know).

:)

Price doesn't indicate everything look at phones for example the Samsung Galaxy S5 £500 16GB (not checked just a guess) compared to the Oneplus One exactly same phone except call quality but it's £269 for 64GB version. I mean which one would you go for? (Bad example if you know nothing about phones lol)

My point is just because I have £2000 budget doesn't mean it has to be spent. So if in gaming terms only G3258 is almost as good but £200 cheaper I would go for this.

Anyway it's not out until 7/04/2014 I think anyway so I have time to think and ponder

Sorry if I sound annoyed or angry just making a point

Get a pentium and give it a try. If it doesn't live up to expectations then it is only £50 spent. You can flog it for £20 (or so) so the loss wouldn't be too great. Then you can drop an i5 or i7 in it's place.

So instead of spending £270 on a CPU he'll spend £300+.

To be honest if ANYTHING is a contender to the 4790k its the 4690k. The Pentium is amazing for what it is but its in a completely different league.

Getting a Pentium and overclocking it for £50 seems like a smart enough idea, then you can decide if it is for you.

I think it is worth a punt at that price. If he doesn't want to spend the £2k in one hit, then the pentium with a single gpu would be a good option. If it doesn't work to expectations, then drop an i5 in. You would probably get most of the £50 back anyway, seeing as it is an unlocked chip it will have more appeal on the 2nd hand market.

I fully understand your point of view as well though :)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-037-IN

That product has anyone got a review/benchmarks vs 780ti

Also for water cooling what water block would I need?
Also typically how much does a fully water cooling loop cost?

That product is going to be faster and cooler than a standard 780ti but it reflects in the size/price of the card.

You may struggle to get SLI running too due to the size.

Im not sure about the block, if its reference (I dont see why it shouldn't be) any 780ti block will for. Use the EK cooling configurator to see whether its reference or not.

As for a waterloop, with GPU a decent one will set you back around £400-£500. Not cheap. But possibly worth it.

pre braided cables tend to be female and male, im guessing youd nee 2 male ends? (i've never actually owned a fully modular psu, i could be wrong)

Please advise on this above. I want it cheaper without doing the obvious like removing the two of things get rid of the cables the fans etc. If possible.

If you would rather rebuild it, i based it on the "Ultima Bullion" (search it its a pre built system) the only thing i want to keep is the Black and Gold Colour theme

I would consider anything basically change CPU, GPU, RAM etc as long as it says with the colour scheme of black and gold

That PSU is way OTT. And you're buying the PSU cable extension bundle, so why are you buying the individual extensions?

Why are you buying 3 SSDs? You can buy a Crucial 1 TB SSD for the same money, and the Samsung 1 TB is a little bit more.

You should consider an external optical drive. Internal ones are rarely used IME and can become dust traps; an external one can be put away .
