pc cctv

Yes.

Co-ax is just the way the cable is made, an inner conductor insulated then with an outer conductor (that usually I beleive acts as an RF sheild).
Different grades of co-ax have different levels of RF sheilding and quality of inner conductor.

If you cut open a composite cable sometime, then cut open a good quality TV cable, then a Satalite or Cable TV cable you'll note there are differences in them (cable TV or Satalite for example tends to have a much thicker knit of outer conductor).

I'm no expert though, so I suspect SB118 will be shouting at me tommorow.

I'll pay £15 for 50m of RF coax, but £52 for 50m of RG59 coax (RF coax may be a bit off, been ages since i bought any!) Wish i was VAT reg'd so i could claim back :( (been there, seen it, done it, got sick of the extra layer of paperwork, bined it!)

Moi? shout? don't know what you mean. Mind you, it's a lot safer on here than it is at the site. Total F Wit labourer was giving it gob about how much work he'd done (which he hadn't, he'd part done then rolled a joint once the gaffer was gone), i'd held off for just over 3 weeks, but he had it coming.

Oh goody, back to Newquay now, wonder if any of the dancers are still wandering around the place seeing where they will be working. I love my wife dearly, and would never look twice at 20 year old, supple, toned, tanned, pert, umm, you know what i mean. ;)

So they use a compressed digital signal then like I said ntl did then, you could have just said that ;)

FYI we still have analogue ntl cable at my parents house seeing as you seem 100% sure that all cable is digital, there was a time before digital tv you know.

In addition there was a time where networking was done over coax cable at speeds of 10MBit at the personal computer level, im not sure if this was the limit of the cable or the network hardware of the time.

So coax isnt all bad :)

Energize, take note the cameras used at my home address are as said the swann cameras these are not the best and therefore picture quality will be lost, its nothing to do with coax cable or BNC connection, just cheaper brand of cameras, but there more then up to the job of running a home CCTV setup.

SB118 i have two questions, have you every used Avermedia NV7000 cards if so can you recommend a PTZ camera compatible with said cards and id like also a sender to be-able to use the cameras on my plasma.

PTZ camera Ive found for a decent price linked below, but i cant find the brand name of it and therefore can't check compatibility list for the PTZ avermedia software to control this camera.

Nemesis - thats basicly what im looking for.

I paln on having 4 Cameras - 2 downstars looking at the front and back door from the inside. 3rd one in my room lookin onto the stars - anyone that walks up the stars it will see them - the 4th on the inside of the window pointing down into the back yard (basicly the street is dark at night because of no street lights -(we have a security light that comes on if you open out gate so it gives some light but we are going to contact the council to see if they can sort something out for street lights as basicly the street is almost pitch black at night).

As for CCTV warning signs - the cameras are inside the house so il put a sign inside the house :p) When the police came round last year they mentiond home security etc and never said about arning signs so hopefuly Northumbria Police dont have that policy for home cctv .

Is there any brands i should be looking for.

It's not a police policy, it's the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998. And it doesn't apply to CCTV systems in private houses, so you're OK there.

My point about the signs was specifically regarding cameras facing out onto your property and the road/pavement.

In the UK though you do not need someones permission to film them, in a public place or on your own private property, you can even film them if they are on their own private property but you are not.

It still doesn't apply - s.36 Domestic Purposes exemption in the DPA 1998.

You don't need their permission to film, but unless one of the fairly limited DPA exemptions applies (as in my previous post), the use of CCTV in areas to which the public largely have free accesss are covered by the DPA, and operators of such systems need to be DPA registered, and comply with the Act, and Codes of Practice ...... including the data subject's right of access.

EDIT - And the DPA specifically covers excluding CCTV access of places where the public have an expectation of privacy, such as using a city centre CCTV system, remotely controlled, to peer in someone's home's window. That sort of thing, certainly, is NOT allowed in the absence of specific authority, such as search warrants or RIPA coverage.

Not sure if its the same situation with RG59 as it is with RF coax, but looking at screwfix 100m of RG59 costs £15, I know with RF coax though, you can pick up 100m of cheap stuff for a tenner, but if you want stuff thats been benchmarked by the CAI such as PH100, WF100, etc, then the money you need to spend more than doubles (but the cable is actually worth installing!)

So not sure if you are getting ripped off, or as I suspect, there are muliple 'grades' in that stuff as well?

Someone needs to update the met police then, as they refused to even look at the footage I had

Perhaps because they couldn't be bothered, and fed you a line of legalistic bullpoop to justify it. Or perhaps because whoever it was didn't understand. Or perhaps because the type or nature of the recordings/equipment was such that such material would not satisfy rules of admissibility.

But the requirement for signs (and what needs to be on them) is part of the DPA (First principle) and only applies where the DPA applies, which it usually doesn't in domestic situations because of s.36.

Sorry, never used them.

Ok no problem.

I bought a PDA and now can view the cameras on it through wifi, did a screen shot showing actual size.

what hardware, cameras you using on the pc etc for that setup

First of all your need a decent DVR card

http://www.averm.co.uk/avermedia/aver/products_security_nv7000.asp?show=9

Mines a NV7000 cost me 250 pounds, it can take 4 cameras you can add more cards if need be later.

Link above shows all the detail about the card i have and you can download the software, and if you decide to i can give you a key to allow you to look at the interface and the many options.

(note this is not warez the the software only works with the Avermedia cards, but with the key your be-able to view this software)

My cameras are not the best but good enough.

http://www.swann.com.au/show_cats.php?maincatsel=Security

1:NIGHT HAWK - WIRELESS OUTDOOR CAMERA 100 pound

2:OUTDOORCAM - COLOR= 50 pound

3:OUTDOORCAM - COLOR= 50 pound

4:OUTDOORCAM - COLOR= 50 pound

all cameras have night vision.

Look on website i linked above all these cameras are listed.

Ill soon be upgrading to pan tilt and zoom (PTZ) cameras which cost quite bit.

As for the PDA i had to buy one that had wifi built in (loox n20) and the software is down-loadable from the first link i gave.

You can view these cameras anywhere as long as you can get a net connection, friend in USA has linked to my home and shop many times.

I have seen many cheap DVR cards but can't comment on how good they are and what they offer.
