How does the co-op work in Dead Island?

For instance, could I start playing the campaign (which I know you can play alone or in co-op) leave it open for public and while I play anyone could jump in and help me?

If so, how does it track your progress so you don't miss pivital parts of the story?

What is dead island like playing solo? Not sure if i can be bothered with a game that is only good in co-op. I love zombies though, so hmm, not sure if i should get it. Might be cheaper later on in the year? :p

I've only played on single player and I loved the game. You won't regret buying it for such a cheap price.

You should really only buy in sales, you see them all the time on these DD sites now, big savings to be made if you shop that way.

Is Aliens Vs Predator worth it at £4.49 or is it a turkey at any price?
 
Worth it I'd say, you get a lot of single player content for your money.

Last time I checked there was no one online to play with.
