I wish iD would go back and finish the engine properly. There's a half decent game underneath RAGE if they fixed the texture popping, mouse dropouts, poor framerate, crashes, glitches, etc.

I tried it recently and the problems it still has utterly frustrate me.

Eurogamer Get Games are doing 2 games for £6 but is there any way of getting 2 copies of the same game? It only seems to let you do two different ones.

I hope so for a 17gb download .

Played about 4-5 hours of it and not sure what to make of it really. It seems like a less fun Borderlands so far, but will play some more tomorrow.

Also can confirm that achievements do indeed work.

So I just finished playing about an hour of RAGE and it seems... okay...

The setting and stuff I quite like, feels very like an id game - nice visuals, reasonably interesting game world and art style, slightly vapid uninteresting plot.

However as someone above notes the two things really killing it for me are the texture pop-in, which is really noticeable and distracting, I mean really, really bad... And the FOV is really really low to the point of straining my eyes. There seem to be a couple of suggested fixes out there but some are so long-winded for a free game I just want to try out... Can anyone confirm anything fairly simple that fixes it?

I’m on my mobile so its difficult to help but search the steam forums. Theres a good graphical tweak and fov fix on there..

I did have a look and I've easily sorted the FOV which helps a lot, but I can't eliminate the texture pop despite trying perhaps 3 or 4 different solutions :( Still with the FOV fixed it's at least playable...

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. I wrote a mini-review here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=23255523&postcount=2705

I concur with most of what you've said... Just like Quake IV or Doom 3 or similar - it's alright... not explicitly awful... playable... fun in places lacking in others. I'm still undecided if I like it enough to buy it.

Is there a way to use a 360 controller just for the driving? I thought it might be like a lot of other games where any input on the controller/keyboard switches control over to that device (so I could just grab my controller when I get in a vehicle) but it doesn't seem to work

There are config files here which allow you to change more things than are in the options menu. You'll have to spend 10 minutes going through it when you download it to set everything the way you want it but after that it's fine. Just be aware that this overrules the autodetection settings, so if you want to set the vsync manually you'll need to do it in this config file, not in the in game menu.
