Guys is FF8 bad? I've never played any Final Fantasy games and someone gifted me FF7. My mate came round yesterday and saw that Steam were selling FF8. He literally burst into a rant how bad the game is and it's a total **** stain on the series. Is it really that poor?

I take it that it's all one key. It's a shame because I only need Brigmore witches, and it's only slightly cheaper than the whole pack.

FF8 tried things differently, namely the combat scaling system, which was easily broken. Through playing the card game and other tricks, you could upscale your damage and health while still keeping your level super low, meaning you could one hit bosses if you turned off random encounters. Also FF7 seems to give all the fanboy's wet dreams, and so FF8 was automatically crap in comparison.

That being said it was quite fun at the time, and theres a theory about the story that makes it a lot more convincing and interesting.

Squall is stabbed through the chest with a giant icicle near the start of the game, up until then he is a bit of a loser, but everything starts going right for him. One theory is that the whole game is a fever dream while he lies on his death bed.

Not to say that you should have to delve into internet discussions about metaphors and imagined themes in the story to make it worthwhile, but people seem to do that with FF7 lifting it onto some kind of pedestal, while not applying the same treatment to anything else.
