I imagine it has something to do with money. People have probably bought the same game on both platforms before (GoG usually offers extra non game content like wallpapers, soundtracks etc). Giving away this for free all the time is effectively giving away a free copy of a game that could be a potential sale.

I use GOG wherever possible. DRM free games that I can download an actual installer for appeals to the old school gamer in me.

If Steam decided I was in breach tomorrow or went under, who's to say I could keep the hundreds of games I've bought with them.

Used to use gog all the time, along with DRM free games from humblebundle, but gog have pulled some dumb stunts that've meant I'm staying clear until they get their act together, if... ;)

Metro Redux Bundle is £5.60 on Steam. They're also doing a Deep Silver discount weekend so things like Dead Island and Saints Row are also discounted.
