Any thoughts on Elite Dangerous?

It's a very good game and I strongly suggest that you think about getting the dlc Horizon as it adds a lot more to the game including landing on planets;
the tutorials are ok but lacking somewhat, but easy enough to pick up and learn and the game has so much to it that it will keep you interested for a very long time.

Not yet, waiting on some TIM to be delivered tomorrow from OCUK so I can finish my new build, but I've bought the Commander Deluxe Edition in readiness :cool:

Just ordered the standard edition with some wallet credit from previous purchases and the monthly 10% off, couldn't say no at that price.

Now thinking of finding some online communities to play with, as I hear they've recreated the whole galaxy etc.

Wasn't willing to pay the extra £10 for the Commander Edition as wasn't sure if I would like it enough.

Need to give it a spin, and will look out for any deals on the expansion.

I wish I had seen the 10% off thing for monthly subscribers as I was looking at CIV VI as well but I've bought it now, hey ho :(

So you can play this online with others in a closed group, as well as solo offline play? And can you play this in an open online as well? So basically 3 modes?

From what I read, so don't quote me, the online play is a little complicated and uses "instancing" rather than a single large server, so can be difficult to get everyone in the same place at the same time.

Although it does work, and a recent campaign had hundreds of people turn up in the same place for an event in space.

You'll also run into people flying missions/pirating etc. On the subject of pirating, I saw a Youtube tutorial where the video maker got attacked by a pirate but a police ship showed up and helped him shoot the pirate out of space - he also earned credits for destroying the pirate's ship.

Depends on how you want to play Elite, as there are 3 areas you can join - Multiplayer (Open Play), join a group (Private Group) which will be you and how ever many are playing in that group and finally we have Solo Play. You will only meet the AI in the Solo and Private Group game (other than your human group friends). It is important to remember that all 3 types of gaming are all connected : Please read this article as it is quite important - https://guides.gamepressure.com/elitedangerous/guide.asp?ID=29569

Not sure if I'm too impressed with this one. Kind of want Bully and LA Noire but not sure I can stump up for them given some of the complaints they each face.
