PC gone mad

Lots of people round here fly the St Georges cross, not many union flags though. I didn't realise it was frowned upon to be honest.

Even if you're proud?

What is with this obsession of being proud of the country you were born in and loving the flag? National pride is a load of rubbish, it literally makes no sense.

Yes, I like living in the UK and I enjoy my life here, but I don't have "national pride", and I'd never fight for the country or any of that nonsense.

I don't see the problem with flying the Union Flag all year around, I don't find it offensive but I don't understand why people are obsessed with it and I do think people misuse the whole flag thing and act like it means something it doesn't which is why you get the likes of the EDL and BNP circle jerking over the Union Flag. It's only a symbol, it's meaningless unless you yourself decide to place importance upon it.

That kinda leads into my opinion of the poppy burning. Burning poppies is meaningless unless you choose to give it meaning and take offence, the people burning poppies don't offend me I just think they're idiots who've got nothing better to do and clearly don't know the history of their own people, never mind that of the UK population. If those burning poppies were ignored they wouldn't bother doing it but the people who get outraged about it are basically reacting exactly how they want people to react.

It's amazing the attitude people in this country have towards our flag. Go to America and many households proudly fly the American flag. Even bus companies display it on the side of buses.

Yet over here it's perceived completely differently :(

I generally agree, but don't forget in the US at times even MoH recipients have trouble flying the flag if their local "home owners" association doesn't agree with it (even if their rules don't prohibit it).

The Saltire is a very popular in Scotland. It gets everywhere, and quite a lot are flown. Planes had it at one point but the company folded, a lot of taxis do, shops etc. Fair amount of business usage both retail and professional etc Most of the trains I see out of the office are in Scotrail Saltire livery as well;

Maybe that's why I feel it's everywhere! :p

I'm fed up with all this junk about our flag and any other badges tbh. It's getting stupid.
I'm patriotic I fought for this country in 3 wars and have lost good friends and family along the way. I will fly my flag, wear a poppy and a help the heros badge with pride and god forbid anyone who tells me otherwise...

Rant over.... :D

:) pretty much nail on the head for what I was going for there! A nice articulation of basically being British, being free to choose if things mean or not, instead of being told to be part of the society.

Noticed this in Australia as well........ Speaking to some expats in y year over there, they summed it u pretty well young country syndrome.

Not sure if I agree 100% with what they wee saying but at a basic level it makes sense

Probably because the people who most want to fly it are mental.

My workplace flies the Saltire but it gets changed to that piece of toilet paper that is the Union Jack on certain days. Yep, I disagree with not being able to fly your countries flag at all times. Go find yourself a George Cross.

Ahhh Celtic fans. The crème de la crème of society.
