Pc held back by consoles

Upset that consoles are holding things back? :p

ps: im an xbox 360 player as well as a pc player

I actually play more games on the Xbox now, just got to go with the flow. The larger screen and surround sound wins for a more relaxing lounge experience. As someone else said earlier which probably the best point made is that fx are pretty much redundant when there's no storyline, good gameplay. Is that not what counts?

That's coming from someone who works in art for the industry.

I do think there's room for improvement over mouse and keyboard FPS controls though. Of course a mouse will destroy a controller competitively. I would just like an analogue movement option for keyboard. Maybe one of those little rubber knobs like on old Toshiba laptops?

I don't think this would offer much, if any, competitive advantage by the way. I just think that analogue movement feels right.

I used to detest controllers for FPS. Remember what a nightmare Golden on the N64 was if you were used to half life? However - since dual analogue some console FPSs have felt pretty good to me. I think Halo on the original Xbox first convinced me that a gamepad need not be a barrier to enjoymant. I would never suggest that it is as effective as a mouse and keyboard though.

Haven't owned a console since the Xbox by the way. Much prefer PC gaming in general but some things about it do frustrate me. On multiplatform games, for example, why is there usually no split-screen option on PC? The PC is more than capable of being a viable option for after-pub gaming with mates. If the developers would support such things, a PC could do everything that are consoles strongest selling points.

Many of the best games lately and for 2011 are not going to be on pc or if they are, a year or more later for pc seems to be the latest trend, red dead redemption being a classic example and batman was delayed on pc.

I see the anti pc gaming trend by the makers delaying pc versions deliberately or just not even bothering at all to continue well in to 2011/12.

Marvel vs capcom 3
Twisted metal
Uncharted 3
Last guardian
Mortal Kombat
Ufc 2012 etc
Fifa 12 (fifa still sucks on pc)
Batman arkham city (no doubt "delayed" on pc)
Metal gear rising
Fight night champions

I could go on and on about the best games of 2011/12 being on ps3 or 360 and not pc.
The final nail in the coffin will be that elderscrolls V lead platform is 360 or ps3.

Which leads me to selling my gaming rig this month and just getting a basic laptop or rig.
Sad thing is, is that I am not even sure we will EVER see the best games making it to pc EVER again.
The trend is bound to continue with the ps4 xbox 1080 as well.

The good news however, is that Dev's have to do their best with the limits placed apon them by the consoles, so occasionally you get a game that is good looking, but very well optimized...

I cant give any concrete examples here, but hopefull Crysis 2 will be one of these games, and from what I'v seen of Rage, this looks like a great looking game, that should be very well optimized.

If anyone says that to me I remind them of the time that Quake 3 dreamcast owners found that PC gamers had found a way to join their servers and were absolutely destroying them, oh and the fact that Microsoft abandoned cross platform play when they found that mediocre PC gamers were beating professional console FPS players in cross-platform matches. :D

Thats amazing, and would love to link a friend to it - Got a source/remember when/why/what, etc?

Looks like the actual details of the Microsoft test were actually rumours:

But the microsoft guys admit they did run experiments, and that there has to be gameplay changes to level the playing field to allow console gamers to cross-play with PC gamers. So I believe there's an element of truth in it.

The Quake 3 crossplatform PC vs Dreamcast is allgedly true, but I've not found any authorative articles to back it up.

well shadowrun the cross platform one proved pretty definitive even with large aim bot advantages the console people got utterly ripped to shreds.

As that's what the people who played it said.

I'd rather have this than have a console:

Also any game that is made for consoles first then ported to the PC will still run on an ancient X1900 or 8800 based video card, the 'PC gaming is too expensive' argument really isnt valid at all, especially when console games normally cost £40 each, compared to £25 for new releases on the PC, and even less a few months later on steam.

And yea, nothing beats being able to choose between a keyboard and mouse or a gamepad based on whichever game you are playing, plus a PC can be used for a lot more things than just playing games.

This wasn't ever a problem during the previous few console generations. Take Final Fantasy 7 on the Playstation for example. Or the first 3D GTA on the PS2. I think the publishers just see £££ with the "casual" market and anything that isn't simple is viewed as risky.

Who gives a flying **** about DirectX 11 or tessellation, you're just polishing a turd for the most part these days.
