Pc held back by consoles

Think mafia 2 is one of the games that shows where the gaps opening up.

The bigger worlds they build, the more they try to cram in, even if they ain't ramping the graphical level up... the raw meat of a mid/top end pc pulls games like mafia 2 through, where as it suffers and stutters on the older hardware of the xbox/ps3.

Dragon Age is my example of choice for recent games. While it's not the prettiest game on the PC, even the scaled-down versions suffered on consoles and the game itself loses a great deal of its gameplay excellence in the console versions. The odd gem like this, where the PC version is so vastly superior to consoles, justifies the extra cost to me. Even the half-arsed console ports are mostly preferable to play on PC than consoles - things like MW2 (which I wouldn't accept for free, but it serves its purpose here) come with lots of cool PC-exclusive features, like K&M support and customisable resolutions. No lean, though.

I cant say i care much for the graphics as much any more. a good story line and gameplay is the main thing for me and since moving to the Xbox360 a few years ago i havent looked back. PC gaming is just too expensive.

well with DA2 they are removing the ability to zoom out to have a top down style view because the higher textures they want to use mean that consoles will not be able to render that much, so will be 1st/3rd person only even on the pc :(

Is there a problem with using your HD TV as a monitor for the PC? I have a friend who does this. He bought a PC for RTS games and just plays them on his TV. Suppose it is just like a console but with better graphics/frame rate.

TV is fine even back in the CRT days for webbrowsing etc it was a nono but games actually looked amazing on a CRT tv

Game developers are already stretched very thin in terms of costs to produce a AAA title that is visually stunning and using the hardware near full potential .. So if developers were to develop games for PC that actually pushed the limits of the current latest hardware the costs would be astronomical and they would need to sell ten times the number of units.. Which considering the size of the PC games market they never will.. So it'll never happen I'm afraid.

This is why you see so many PC games that simply tack on cheap effects on PC ports to "boost" the appearance for ultimately very little extra cost. I.E. DX11 tessellation and full screen AO etc..

No its not, because consoles are holding back PC graphics, a computer bought 3 years ago can still run all the titles coming out today.

Plus, at least PC have proper controls instead of POS kiddies controllers :p

Edit- But thats just my opinion of course!

Putting mouse and keyboard asside, I would actually say FPS is suprising weak on the PC right now, even though in theory it should be PC gaming's strongest asset.

PC is best for strategy, MMO's and RPGs.

i was kinda thinking more mouse and keyboard but yeas its nothing compared to the might of COD on the consoles.

Same, makes me weep.

If anyone says that to me I remind them of the time that Quake 3 dreamcast owners found that PC gamers had found a way to join their servers and were absolutely destroying them, oh and the fact that Microsoft abandoned cross platform play when they found that mediocre PC gamers were beating professional console FPS players in cross-platform matches. :D

you are comparing a £400 consolve to a £1800 PC... i bet under 1% of computer users have that type of PC

You can buy a PS4 for £400? Where?

Well hopefully the new toy for the Xbox is the Kennect which will push Xbox and to more arcade type games, but that's wishfull thinking, i think the next step for PC is 3d Vision (Nvidia have already released) but instead of using a mouse or keyboard you actually hold a gun and uses sensor's to detect your movement, imagine playing something like BF3 with an attachable scope which you could look through, know thats sniping.

You would need a massive screen for this to work properly though... Imagine trying to aim at a few pixels with a model gun :-/

I've been a PC gamer for about 12 years and I play consoles now. I'm left handed and my machine isn't top notch. I hate having to spend about 2 hours tweaking the game to look good but also perform great.
It looks great then starts chugging in parts so you turn it down... then you get cheeky and turn it up again.
Being left handed I have to tweak the controls to do as much as possible to comfortably play and in the end I just want to sit on the couch, lie back and play a game.

I don't care about the graphics, the controls...

You know... You could just leave your PC on the recommended settings and if it struggles, turn it down? That way, you spend <1 minute 'tweaking' it... Especially seeing as you said youself that you don't care about the graphics

On the mouse and keyboard vs controller for FPS, I think both have their merits. Competitively, you can't beat the mouse for speed and accuracy. However, I do very much like having movement tied to an analogue stick, which generally seems more fluid and natural to me than keys. At least on PC you usually have the option of either one.

You would get destroyed using a controller against a mouse and keyboard. I switch between xbox and pc black ops and the console version feels like slow motion, even the movement tbh. pc still rules fps imo

For a more immersive, intense and responsive experience, I would choose PC gaming over a console every time, so far. For a few exclusives and a bit more of a laugh with your mates then, yeah, that part is fine when console gaming.

The variable speeds are useful for movement, but for me it doesn't outweigh the benefits of mouse aiming or the variety of keymaps you can use. I miss FPS games with a weapon assigned to each of the number buttons.

I don't know how some of you have energy to debate care so much. Just play it on what suits you, I cannot be bothered messing with the pc anymore to be honest.

+ If your going to claim so many things about the industry don't grab so called facts from thin air, quote some reference please.
