PC Modding and tweaking = car modding and tweaking?

already have richdog :]

as for lowering, springs are cheap to buy and cheap to fit. no point going into full shocks n springs or coilovers on your car :]
-30mm would be great

Personally I think the _interior_ is more important than the exterior and performance on a Clio. So that could mean things like an upgraded sound system (not a stupid boom box though), MP3 player head unit, iPod adapter or Sat Nav, etc etc.

I think on the some designers work very hard indeed to come up with cars that look appropriate...

There are, of course, some cars that do not look good - but I don't think modding will save many of them...

I think the shape of your car and era it was made in are far more important than any outside mods you can do to your car - which is why most people are best off buying the right car in the first place and then leaving it well alone...

Maybe wheels as an exception to this rule...

Try to go for Lian Li/Coolermaster stlye modding but for your car and you can't go wrong :)

So it's easy to do yourself? Not sure i'd know where to begin actually... probably end up wrecking the car, even with my dads help. :o

Got a new stereo, sat nav is on my phone, and the speakers that were already there are surprisingly good. :)

Hmm, add a 120mm blowhole to the bonnet and fit an LED displaying engine temps and cc? :D

you can do it yourself, tho its better to get a garage to do it as you need special equipement.

i paid just over £40 to have 4 springs fitted on my focus :]

I'll keep that in mind mate. :)

Also just fitted my rear dark lexus-style lights onto the back and they look much better than I thought, even my dad, one of the biggest fuddy-duddies in the world gave a grusging "Hmm, they look better son". I'll take a pic tommorrow. Car is looking nice now I think. Yes it's just a little Renault Clio, but it's my first ever car and drives great so it can do no wrong in my eyes. :D

i went the other way, spent a year and half modding my car then found you can do stuff to pcs! lol.
do kep it subtle lowerd as said will make a big improvement, clear side repeaters are nothing to fit. have a look at higher spec models of the same car, like the williams etc and see if theres styling bits from that you might want to steal. theres no reason why you cant plan to keep the car for a verry long time becouse altho its "only a clio" theres engine transplants to be made and you have more than one choice:)
do ask on here before you pic a spoiler, please:P hehe

well done!
another person who has realised that car modding is just like pc modding or just like creating an image through clothing!

I agree.... I built a complete car from parts just like my pc

:D

Richdog, get your car lowered either 35mm or 55mm front and back (springs on front, torsion bar on the back).

You can lower both ends yourself with basic workshop tools.

Imo that spoiler sucks. It looks like a park bench. If you want discreet go for the spoiler off a Clio RSi/16v or a Williams. The Williams spoiler is slightly bigger but they still look nice and sporty.

As for the PC/Car modding thing. I agree. Main thing people 'overclock' is the CPU...so why not tune up your engine?

It's only a 1.4 you may say, but don't be fooled into thinking you can't get power from it.

For the money it'll cost you to get a high end PC you could see your car pushing well over 100Bhp...and you insurance need never know :)

FincH what things can I do to the engine to tune it up, can you give examples mate? :)

Also (though I may go to hell for suggesting such a thing) if you have an accident and your car is modded a bit do the insurance company find out and screw you even if you kept schtum about the mods?

The best thing you could do is get the head of your engine rewroked.

Then get the de-cat replaced, a panel filter, cam and a remap.

Well I suppose if the insurance company started taking your engine apart they could...

What sort of costs are we looking at for all that jazz, squire?

Depends where you go mate.

Well, shall we start with how much you're willing to spend?

Erm I can probably afford to fork out £100-£150 a month until it's done. What's the realistic cost for each of those?

quite a lot, headwork isnt cheap, fitting fast road cams im not sure about.

filter / exhaust and a remap would be min £500 i would imagine (exhaust being a full exhaust with decat or sport cat).

I was into car modding well before PC modding. Back in my youth I had a 309 GTI and in those days modding involved things like K&N, Janspeed, Peco, Rebus, KentCams, Pipercross etc etc none of this drive your rice burner to a workshop and remap it. Thats just cheating really, i bit like buying a pre clocked PC system.
I only got int PC modding since I got married and had kids and grew out of the car modding really. Now I really enjoy it although not really that good at it yet.

cleanbluesky, all you seem to do is trawl through the forums finding situations where you can argue about the social significance of things. Stop being an argumentative tit.

As for the car, I wouldn't go too OTT.
