PC Nostalgia (Pick a moment in time)

I remember playing my C64 starting something within, then my parent's bought me a Amiga 1200 for xmas playing Oscar and Dennis on xmas day great time's - life was so simple, little to there knowledge and how it would plague them the hours I would spend on it. Which got me into PC gaming later in life, being moaned at for spending hours in my bedroom, all their fault in my eyes :) Still to this day my dad shakes his head at me "playing computer games".

I would go back to the first day my family got its first PC, I had many great evenings after school playing games like flight simulator, C &C red alert and Delta Force. PC gaming in the 90s was pretty epic really, loved it and miss it very much!

Buying my first PC while working part time as a student and buying an ATI X800XL with my entire month's salary. Far Cry looked so damn good though!

I'd like to go back to first playing City of Heroes.
Failing that, Half Life, Team Fortress Classic and MechWarrior 4 on the zone days.

First days of the Counter Strike stand out to me.

Very first 3dFX cards, then the Voodoo 2 which was a beast.

But overall.... has to be the Amiga 500 \ 1200 days. Nothing has compared since for the magic factor.

I still remember the day my Dad came home from that popular PC shop with the newly released 3DFX Voodoo 5 5500 AGP, it must have been around late 1999 / early 2000 I think. My goodness that was one long graphics card back in it's day, and the frustration that used to follow with him getting annoyed with it because the card itself used to partially disconnect itself from the AGP port and crash his gaming due to the overhanging :D

I took over that card, along with his old rig when he upgraded and ran the rig into the ground until retiring it around 2002. The card still ran when I last powered on the machine in 2013 before then dumping it at the tip.

Liam.

I would have to go back to before I actually owned a PC, to the Amiga 500 in about 1995/96

It was all about Monkey Island 1 & 2 for me, that's where my love of gaming truly began.

For PC it would be about 2002 and CS then onto CS:S

I'd like to go back to first playing City of Heroes.

CoH was my favorite MMO. Really wish they didn't close down the servers :(

I would go back to when I had my beast of a PC that I bought when I got my first full-time job in 2008!

Specs were:
2 x 250 GB HDD
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
ThermalTake Armor VA8003BWS Black Window 25CM Fan
GEIL 8GB DDR2 800 CL5.0 QUAD CHANNEL BLACK DRAGON
Logitech 5.1 X-530 Black Speaker System
Microsoft SideWinder 5 Button Laser Gaming Mouse
Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard
Creative X-FI Xtreme Gamer 7.1
ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA 1600 FSB (Intel X48)
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (4 x 2.83 GHZ) 1333FSB - 12 MB
Cooler Master V8 - Ultimate Silent Cooler
2 x ATI Radeon - 4870 X2 - 2 GB (CrossFireX Setup) Worlds Fastest
Cooler Master 1250W Real Power Pro EPS12V

Cost me 2k at the time but my god was it a thing of beauty!

My Dad has it now as I sold it to him years ago to fund other things.

Picture of my desk back in the early 200's, used to LOVE playing Q3 Arena and Runescape classic... Best time for my PC days EVER

there was a christmas (1997?) where I was playing Dark Forces II Jedi Knight, Quake II, Blade Runner, and Curse of monkey island

overload of awesomeness that year

edit : also Wing Commander Prophecy, GTA 1 and Xwing vs Tie

Gaming on a Pentium 2, with a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI card, playing Thief The Dark Project for the first time...

I still remember getting HL2 and an extra 512Mb RAM to play it on my crappy PC. Must have been for Christmas 2004. Put game in PC, nothing showed up. So confused. Eventually contacted steam support and had the rudest reply back which was along the lines of "you need a DVD drive you ****, you only have a CD-ROM drive." I was amazed at my own stupidity/naivety. Required a trip to the local purple shirt store for an extra christmas present on boxing day.

Wow, so many memories. Fun and frustrations in equal measures throughout.

After years with a BBC B and an Archimedes A3000 (amazing for its time) Dad got me my first PC in 1992 - 386DX 25 Mhz with 2MB ram, 512KB Cirrus logic gfx and a 130MB hard drive. Amazing, I no longer had to run a PC emulator on the A3000 which got me about 2fps in games like the Blues Brothers.

Ah the hours playing Wolfenstein 3D, Monkey Island, Alone in the Dark and Doom 1/2 - double shotgun anyone?

The next big step for me was when Dad got me a Sound Blaster Pro sound card as I couldn't get any speech in Wing Commander 2. OMG. Best Xmas present ever!

After that it was countless hours playing things like: X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Falcon 3.0 and Monkey Island 2. Also the many hours modifying the Autoexec.bat and config.sys files to gain enough base memory to play games while also not forgetting to load the mouse driver. Extended memory drivers, Expanded memory drivers oh man it's all coming back.

Eventually I hit the ram limitation with games like Nova Logic's Commanche which needed 4MB. That started me on the long (expensive!?) road of modifying.

Oh, mustn't forget Doom 2 and Delta Force against your mates via serial cable! Many happy memories but sadly I struggle to achieve the same levels of gaming fun these days.

Playing Quake 2 / 3, Half life, counter strike, team fortress, Medal of honour AA, Diablo 2 LOD and red Alert 2 on my old p3 450mhz PC upgraded to 256mb ram and a GeForce 4 420mx pci graphics card :D I suppose all this happened early 2000's so I'd say that was my fave era, more so than the dos days :)

This is definitely my favourite era. A slightly ropey overclocked machine which I built and customised myself and less stable software made it more fun to tinker with everything (benchmarking different video card drivers - what was I thinking?!). Switching from my P3 500 Mhz to an AMD XP 1800 machine was awesome. Counterstrike tournaments on school LAN and late night diablo 2 and red alert 2 made for happy times. Sadly I've almost completely stopped playing computer games... I think I need to find something to get my teeth into.

Then again playing carmageddon and transport tycoon on my P150 MMX laptop was pretty awesome too!

Half Life is definitely my favourite game of all time.

The original GTA was the first game that I played via serial link. Bloody awesome.

KT7A Raid motherboard with an AMD T-Bird 850 @ 1ghz. This was the beast that ran the Q3 time demo for me at over 100fps. It was the days you could pencil mod your chip to unlock multipliers.

I'd go back to 93/94 when I visited my brother who had a few 386s networked up and we played Doom 1v1. It was an amazing experience after playing mostly 2d platform games on the Amiga. That is what converted me to PCs and I have not stopped building, repairing and supporting since.
