pc or not to pc

GT5 had virtually no hype to be honest and most people find sim racing games boring including myself.
I'll take motorstorm apocalypse and twisted metal over any pc racing game thanks.

no hype?!"? You living under a rock?

Was hyped more than any game I've ever seen.

No it wasn't there were videos released etc just like any game but the hype around it's release was non existent even took ages before any reviews came out.

Hype is when the media finds you and you are bombarded by it, this didn't happen with gt5 at all in fact I don't think I have even seen a single tv ad for it.

This is a partial list of PC games coming in 2011 that I am buying (several are even due in the next 3 months):

Fable 3 (Jan)
Dead Space 2 (Jan)
Duke Nukem (Mar)
Crysis 2 (Mar)
Crash Time 4 (Feb)
Assassins Creed Brotherhood (Feb)
From Dust
Brink
Batman Arkham City
Portal2 (April)
Bulletstorm (Feb)
FEAR3
Diablo3
Alice Madness Returns

As others have said most console games are shallow & boring most are very similar looking nowadays at least PC has the potential to look better even on average games the PC can fly through them with ease.

The grass is always greener effect etc etc I used to think about 2 years ago that my PS3/360 were giving me a viable gaming experience in addition to my PC but I quickly discovered how deceptive console games are. The gfx alone are dreadful on many top selling games due to highly compressed textures & tiny little levels so the consoles can handle the gameworld.

Then throw in the input lag on most games as the console just cannot handle the FPS without vysnc disabled so you get ugly screen tear in many console games as well as the same if not more bugs with hard lockups, save game progress glitches & broken achievements/trophies which usually never get fixed.

Then look at how almost every console game is now designed around how much money they can screw from the player for DLC so they are ripping out game content to sell you later & making the actual game you buy little more than a paid promo for the 1 year later GOTY/Complete edition!

The only thing console gaming has going for it right now is that it has massively expanded the market for casual gamers & non technical gamers who just want a plug n play experience.

Without these multiplatform game designs PC gaming would not even get many of these titles as it just does not sell the same volume as its a niche market for gamers who want the best experience & have enough technical knowledge to tweak or fix issues.

In the next few years I see it carrying on the same with a few PC only exclusives & the rest mainly multiplatform game designs which the PC will usually offer the optimium experience on as the costs to make modern games are staggering so at least the PC is still a top 3 gaming platform & that alone ensures it will get plenty of games for years to come as in many global markets the PC is the dominant gaming platform (Russia of all places, Germany is the biggest PC gaming market in the world, most of Asia & emerging markets all shun consoles so the PC rules & these markets buy a lot of PC games digitally).

I really hate consoles now as they have for sure ruined many PC gaming elements but they also ensure its continued survival as the need to try to maximise investment on these huge development budgets & ease of porting mean it will at least survive & prosper for a long time to come!

The pc just isn't that big in america they all just have laptops or cheap desktops these days. Most of them think the pc is only good for world of warcraft and as long as america is out of love with the pc this trend shall continue.

Own both. Pick and choose your games to play on each. You don't need to splash on cutting edge system to enjoy games these days. And tbh, since getting a PS3, I've found some games do better suit being played while reclined on the couch.

thinking of giving up pc games and going to buy ps3 stuff instead. There seems to be a lot off stuff out there for the ps3 atm.I am thinking of getting gran turismo 5.I just dont see anything i like anymore for the pc.Anybody here got gt 5 for the ps3 and would i see much difference in performance over pc games.

FARGLEWARRRRRGLE!

Put spaces after full stops!

I'm lucky enough to have a 360 / PS3 and a good PC :) (and a Wii but erm, well yeah, and a macbook) use the PC more, WoW + FM and shooters ;)

PS3 is good fun :) Black ops with friends + FIFA and Heavy Rain :)

I play PC games partly because the PC isn't in the lounge. I've got consoles in the lounge for playing with my kids, but the TV is nearly always in use for watching soaps or game shows or reality rubbish that I can't stand, so I hardly get to use the consoles.

My PC is MY PC. No-one can tell me I can't play a game because they're watching TV, I can go on it whenever I want without disturbing anyone.

That's a big bonus for me, in addition to all the other things I get from PC gaming - mouse and keyboard controls, but with the option of using any other controller if I want, higher resolutions and better quality graphics, cheaper games, exclusives that simply aren't possible on consoles (compared to console exclusives which could easily be done on PC).

Plus building a PC for gaming is fun, and gives you a sense of achievement that you just can't get from consoles.

Just traded my ps3 in with GT5 and a few other games as I never played it, ever. Hated the controller on it, in all the time since launch that i had a ps3, i completed one game.

I'm creasing over at C64's list of console games what a load of pap. And GT5 had no hype? I did additional LOL's

PC is superior in every way possible, your argument is invalid

Any self-respecting gamer should at least own 2 current consoles, a handheld, a main PC, several lesser pcs (bits and bobs are acceptable though they must be able to be clumped together into something usable if main dies) and a laptop or two.

I lol and pity you.

Those games will be miles better than anything on pc.
It's not like I'm some console fanboy I have a gaming pc and have pc gamed since around 1997.

So what do I do if I want to play fifa 11 fighting games other sports games etc etc ?
oh yea they aren't on pc and fifa 11 is a laughing stock on pc

I'll be enjoying some of the best games next year whilst you'll be stuck with first person shooters with slightly better graphics and a buggy witcher 2.

PC all the way.

I own pretty much every console created in the last 15 years or so. But my love for PC never dies.

Well after a few days playing on gt5 and a few other games i can say consoles are not for me.Got bored after a few hours, all the cars seem to handle the same. The multi isnt that good. The cars seem to just glide on the track like they are on water.
Graphics are average, nothing like the screenshots i have seen.
I also played on fifa which i enjoyed, and call of duty but lost my way trying to use the controller.
The whole thing just seems to be very basic compaired to my pc.Glad i never spent loads of money.

could you be any more ignorant if you tried? obviously it's all subjective anyway but to suggest that all you can look forward to as a pc gamer next year are 'first person shooters with slightly better graphics and a buggy witcher 2,' is plain moronic. personally i enjoy using my ps3 for fps, and footballer games. but there is really no other way to enjoy mmo's, proper rpg's, rts, tbs and simulations than to game on pc. oh and there's absolutley tonnes of great games coming out for pc next year in all these genres. for console? not so sure myself, but hey each to their own.

The point I am trying to make is that no the pc is not the #1 gaming platform anymore it's probably ps3/360/pc/wii

I'd rather have a ps3/360 + basic pc than a gaming rig and no console because the games are more fun on console especially all the sports racing and fighting games not to mention stuff like bayonetta and demons souls the two best games of the last 2 years.

The pc doesn't get exclusives often enough to warrant having an always up to date latest greatest gaming pc.
The fact you are dragging up mmo's in to the argument speaks volumes, since when did you need a latest gaming rig for mmo's ?

People who don't have a 360 or ps3 are missing out you cant judge consoles on first person shooters everyone knows pc is better for those.
