Pc or PS3

i KNEW someone was going to post a stupid statement like that, my eyesight is fine (went to opticians 3 months ago) and i wasn't sitting far from the TV, maybe 5 feet or so, and the TV in question is samsung 37" 1080HD connected to my PS3 via HDMI, and sure there is a small difference but its nothing extrodinary, hence how i said 'virtually no difference' that i can tell

Here's a few theories as to why you're saying there's no difference.

1) Your eyesight is crap and your optician lied to you for a joke.

2) You're extremely stubborn and won't admit to there being a difference due to you have a huge DVD collection

3) You're flamebaiting

4) What you think to be a HDTV is actually just an SD TV.

Look at these images and tell me there's 'virtually no difference'.

man HD content is fantastic and a massive difference over dvd quality. even 720p is a shed loads better than dvd quality. whoever said that there is no difference between standard definition and high definition needs to clarify in far more detail what video they watched and what hardware (player/screen) was used to come to that assumption.

got to say the console has the upper hand on the pc when it comes to game release dates. consoles have ease of use, even kids can play on them without you looking over their shoulder to make sure they dont wipe out some system files. consoles in general are more reliable and provide the better gaming experience, no more bsods or driver update issues.

fps and rts games the pc wins on simply because of the keyboard and mouse interface. if the consoles supported the keyboard and mouse input for the fps and rts games even i would get me a console.

also dunno if its just me but i cant seem to find myself playing multiplayer games with people on 1 pc like pro evo soccer, it just feels more natural to play it on the console with others, but then again network gaming on the pc is a whole different experience.

touching on graphics now the pc wins hands down. crysis alone is worth buying a pc for. as mentioned above the resolution and filter quality on pc is fantastic IF you have the hardware for it. loading times also seem to favour the pc as long as you dont run your games from a usb1 memstik.

now some of you wont like the sound of this but a few people iv spoken to say they prefer the pc for gaming since all you do is buy the hardware as a one time purchase (can be upgraded too) and the games come for "free". not the right sort of attitude for pc gaming but some people seem to think that having spent a grand on the hardware is justification on downloading games for free. thats not on.

in conclusion, i say both systems have thier own advantages and disadvantages, pc's can be used for other things than gaming, but then again consoles these days too also seem to be able to double up as media players and web browsers too. the future could possibly be a console being a pc in a small fancy box.

Sums it up.

But really it is everyone for their own and all that. Consoles are just that much easier to get up and running than computers but wont get the same results.

Each has its owns pros and cons.

I have both a PC and PS3 - and just before getting the PS3 you know what I did?

Spent a load of money on my PC to upgrade and Im ****ing happy I did.

Theres games on the PC that a console will never do well due to the control system - I know the PC is a money pit, but its senseless trying to justify it as its always going to cost more than a 'comparable' console...

We need to add something to the FAQ about this as its not like there arent umpteen posts like this and its always gonna cause an argument - Id be happy if the mods took it further and suspending OPs that start these threads...

I own a pc (see sig) and ps3. My PC is nowhere near top spec anymore, but it plays 95% of new games fine at 1900x1200. Whereas the PS3 stutters at 720p, or in GTA4's case 576p.

On a raw power point of view my pc is better in every single way.

I know PC's cost a lot, but they are so many times better than a console. If I want to lie in bed on a game (IE relax console style) I use use my 360 pad.

I rarely use my PS3!!! Should probs sell it as its 60gb...

Uh oh, here we go..

i was just going to have some heinz spaghetti on toast but not anymore :o

dont forget the bragging rights you get with a pc, the age old my pc is better than your pc.

you cant do that at all with a ps3 ( my ps3 is better than yours ) nope there both the ******* same lol, absolute rubbish if you ask me got an xbox 360 with so many games ive lost count, dunno why i have so many cos i dont play them often enough to warrant the cost.
i do keep meaning to get supreme commander for the 360 though just to see how 1000 units moves on an 80k map with 8 players, would be a laugh i think

Today I replaced a broken 360 with a....... SNES!!! :D and won't be going back!
Goodbye patch downloads, instability, crashes, long loading times etc. Instant retro gaming is here again, happy days

the future could possibly be a console being a pc in a small fancy box.
That future's already here but the decades old 'home entertainment' industry earns too much money and will hold on for as long as pos.

Oh and there's a huge difference going from SD to HD but much less going from 720p to 1080p.

Oh and there's a huge difference going from SD to HD but much less going from 720p to 1080p.

852x480 = circa 409k pixels
1,280x720 = circa 922k pixels
1920x1080 = circa 2074k pixels

The jump from 720p to 1080p is gigantic (No wonder graphics cards on PC's crap themselves ay high res), you only cannot see it if:
1) Your screen is too small(or you are too far away)
2) Your screen has not got 1080p's worth of pixels (so is an ooooooooooooold TV or is 720p).

Hardly suprising why consoles cannot do 1080p games!! The new wipeout on ps3 is, but the graphics are quite simplistic/blocky in order to acheive this.

PC wins but just not in the price department.

I just wish they did something new and evolutionary like a VR console or something, pity that it sucks so much at the moment. Graphics are easily good enough now for VR.

A console (read "box") that can do everything already exists and has done for ages - HTPC.

To have a PC that matches a game console in power, you wouldn't need that much to be frank, all the big games are rendered in resolutions lower than 720p, never mind a PC that can run games at proper 1080p with tonnes of AA etc.

I honestly felt from playing all my PC games at 1920x1080 on my 40" LCD to playing Resistance 2 the other day on the PS3 that the graphical gap was large, I actually felt the graphics were poor.

The only thing the PC has against it is the potential cost, however you do not need to buy loads of accessories and games are cheaper so this may even it out a little. I do not buy the arguments about installing games and what not as this is more than offsetted by better loading times.

The reason I thus own a PS3 and Wii? Social gaming and their exclusives. I did have a Xbox 360 but I hardly played it as the key games I would/did play on it were on the PC with way better graphics.

The way I do it is, if the game comes out on all consoles and PC, then I get the game on the PC, it's far cheaper and generally looks better.

If it's a console exclusive, then I'll buy it on the console. I wouldn't ever get an all format game on a console, as for cost, you can build a gaming PC that would blow away a console for £400.

That's with a 2.8GHz intel dual core, 4850 512MB, 2GB RAM, 500GB HD,22x DVD-R and a decent case and PSU.

When you factor in the cost of games, the PC can work out cheaper. Especially since the average price of console games is £50 compared to <£25 for PCs.

A PS3 with 10 games at average release price = £800

A PC with 10 games at average release price = £650

Then the fact that you can do far more with a PC.

I love consoles, but they'll never best the PC in my opinion.

Agreed. A high-end PC will kill a PS3. It's upto you whether you think the extra performace is £1500-£2500.

Though consoles do have there plus points like beat 'em ups and driving games and being able to play them from your amrchair.
