Graphics card runs max speed / NO Display.... help!

hello.

well i just got my new psu. Corsair HX 620W
since my old HIPER died..so..
my pc now works yey!.... but...

my problems are..

1st - My graphics card is running at full speed when i turn on the pc. and it will not slow down, like it should after few seconds on boot.

2nd- also my graphics card ATI 1900XTX saphire 512mb, is connected to my dell 2047 monitor. using the DVI cable, but when the pc is on. it just turns the monitor to sleep, i dont get a picture of nothing, when i pull the cable out, then i see no signal... but its all connected... i just dont see anything.

3rd- my XFI - Fata1ity sound card 64mb, has a RED light on the site. im not sure if that means power.. or just for fancy, but it has power going to it. i just never noticed it before?

can anyone help me in this situtation?
im still stuck, and dont want to leave the pc running for long. if my graphics card is spinning at max, and there is no picture on the monitor...

i have got my xbox in the other leave.. the AVI one.
and that works fine, i just switch it over, and lights up...

what is causing it? i checked all cables, and it seems ok...

any thoughts?

thanks for your time.
cheers ;)

all i have changed was the new PSU.

replaced the broken 580w HIPER, with the new 620W Corsair, and new leads.

havnt touched anything else, at the start.
now have taken out all of the others to find the problem.

but the graphics card still spins like mad. no signal to the monitor...

my spec is:::
Tsunami Dream VA3000BWA, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe S939, 2GB OCZ Dual Channel PC4000, 620W Corsair, 2x Raptor" 10,000RPM 80gig, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+, Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT-X 512MB GDDR3

oh yea... everything is standard. i dont overclock.
i reset CMOS but still nothing, did battery too

no i had another thread i made with the HIPER problems.

pc just wouldnt turn on, and it was the PSU.
nothing went bang or anything, it just wouldnt turn on the next day :/

yes the cmos is cleared, it was cleared in the last one, as my battery died so it never saved the bios.

i replaced battery, but i cant see the bios, as i dont have a picture on screen, monitor is fine as its playing the xbox 360 fine.

graphics card is just running max speed, all the time :/

i will double check it all again on the leads.

there is a 24pin one a 4 pin, and a 6 pin, which i dont need for my motherboard.

so im using the 24pin and 4pin on the motherboard,
and another lead for the PCI which is all in,

read it again, you'll find everything connected as it should be.

im not that silly not to connect power to the PCI card,

i just not experienced enough to know why, my graphics card is running at full pelt and no signal coming out of the monitor... it just says going to sleep.

im going to try again tomorrow when its lighter.

its just really wierd.. :/

the graphics card was fine, nothing was wrong with it before hand.

i may take it all appart again, and place back it in slowly.
like e.g the motherboard. harddrives, and so on...

im going to google some more this morning before i attempt it.

but last night i did take out the cmos battery, and changed the jumper over, so reset it all. so i try that again this morning.

ok i just took the CPU and heatsink off.

now i need to clean it, and apply thermal paste (my artic silver)

what do i use to clean the old one off with?

... To optimally clean the surface use ArctiClean steps 1 and 2 or adequately by using a low residual solvent (high-purity isopropyl alcohol)...

so whats that?
i need to clean both the cpu and heatsink,

i got a couple of guides downloaded. but not sure what the isopropyl alcohol is... :/

yea i think i get a old rag then, im not worried to much about temps.

its been fairly cool. allways.

im just stumped on the graphics card, why that is spinning at max, and doesnt slow down on boot. and why it doesnt pick up a signal on the monitor... the cmos reset over night... didnt work :(

what kind of surface should i try if i was to build the pc outside the case? to make sure if it spins ok that way... just place on some carboard boxes?

i used a cotton bud. it came off without any liquids or anything,

was just like chalk.

now do i place a tiny rice blob and spread it out?
or just a blob... of the artic silver?

thanks for the replys.

the only other graphics card i have is a old AGP one.. and i dont think it will go in my motherboard. it only has PCI express on it, same with connections.

i hope my graphics card hasnt gone.. as that cost me £500 when it came out.
and its just over a year old now, but i got it from here.

i know what you mean about the cables. i understand i done it once.
but yes, i never not look there, first place i check is making sure all cables are connected.

so just put a blob on the cpu, the heatsink with spread it out ok?
i keep reading, some people spread... others dont?

whats best for me?

when i first placed it in, there was a thermal paste allready on it, from AMD.

thanks for the reply.

i just put the cpu and heatsink back on the motherboard. i then just took all that out, and had a good look, cant see anything wrong with it.

i dont think i coud be confindent enough to try shorting things, as a few people said to try with the old psu aswell before.

im scared too.

only problem is, the motherboard uses a speach post. but there is no speaker in the case, nor.. on board the motherboard.

i checked my old pc, and it didnt have one. i will have to get one soon for it.

i will try again with the bare system,

only thing that started it all, was one night all worked fine, turned off as normal and then next day, pc wouldnt turn on at all. got a new PSU, and that booted the pc up, but now i get the problem with the post'ing, and displays aswell as the graphics card not spinning down.

the psu never blew up or anything, i just stopped working.
but everything was fine...

i will try and borrow my uncles pc or get another graphics card/memory aswell to test it.

i dont unfortunalty :(

only maybe can test each thing in my uncles pc...

would a motherboard do that, with the graphics card?
no display and fans spinning non stop...

i just took it appart and put only the motherboard, psu, graphics and one memory stick together,.. same thing happend :/

i would rather it be the motherboard than the graphics card :(
even though i cant afford anything at the moment. im in the red in the bank.

not sure what to do... right now

all i hope is i dont loose my work on the harddrives!!!

edit: just phoned me uncle... going to pop round test my graphics card and memory in his, see if they ok. if so... means the motherboard as the psu was brand new and works

:(

yep your right dude,

popped round my uncles, tested both memory sticks, and graphics card, all worked on his fine,

i dunno why the motherboard went, never had any probs.

im on socket 939, and dont wana upgrade too much yet, as im very broke...
so im going to try and find a replacement motherboard, same model to use in the mean time, try and find a bargin somewhere :/

touch wood... no more problems after i get the motherboard.

i keep you posted ;)

thanks for all the replys, thats why i like these forums :)

thanks, yea i guess your right, didnt think of that.

well... we learn new things everyday. i just hope i remember this one incase of it happening again.

but once you find out these things, it helps a lot.
shame my motherboard had to go too. but im now trying to find the same model to replace it with :)

what would go wrong with the motherboard to do this though?

i mean, i never had any of these problems before with it, why would it just do that... unless it went when the psu went...

would the motherboard stop the psu from working too?

yep, think it took my hiper also, if my motherboard and PSU has a manufactors warrenty over 1 year, then i will try get a replacement.

i managed to find my same board, of thebay for £51

it will do for now, im not looking to upgrade for another year or so, untill i can afford it. as i would love to get quad core, and see whats there next year.

but for now, i just want a pc back :/

i so so so hope my work isnt gone, i would cry.

i dont like the look of AM2 stuff, doesnt do it for me, just another way for compaines to make people upgrade, when dont need too.

intel doing well with there core duo's, they look nice, though im waiting for a decent AMD one now, :)

hopefully the new board will work, and i can continue with my pc again :)

guess what guys!!!

after just getting another new motherboard, new psu...
tested the graphics card, memory and monitor, in another pc... all working fine...

IT STILL NO DIFFERENT FROM 2 WEEKS AGO!

i have absolutly no idea what is causing the pc not to POST.
display anything, and for the graphics card just to spin like man :(

i really really dont know what to do.
it took me a hour and 45mins to get back together, i slowly took my time to make sure everything was right... and bam SAME PROBLEM!

so... people have said its the PSU, and Motherboard...
yet... Nothing has changed!

i have put myself into the red at the bank, cant afford for a pc tech dude to look at it, so... im stuffed what to do :/

any advice???
before i go top myself...
