Hello All

I've joined these forums hunting down some help from those better educated than me when it comes to all things PC.

Of recent I've been following everything next gen when it comes to gaming as I'm sure many of us have. To the point I nearly ordered myself a Series X till I realised a PC build might suit my needs far more sufficiently.

I work in a some what techy sector in the sense I build smart homes, this means I use a PC on a daily basis, in which I need to run software such as AutoCAD which requires a certain amount of power. This is where my build comes into play. Ideally I would like a work station that allows me to carry out all my work requirements and then when I'm done reach for my xbox controller and get absolutely rolled by a couple of 14 year olds on warzone (turn it off and cook dinner) if you see what I'm getting at.

Anyway, my thought process is instead of spending £500 on a next gen invest my money into a far more flexible PC. My thoughts are put £2400 or £2000exVAT into a PC and allow it to assist both work and pleasure.

I'm not intrested in RGB and flashy lights, all I'd like an opinion or discussion on is specification. The RTX3080 looks like a dead cert from what I've seen, but the rest I'm an open book on really. Do I go intel or Ryzen? Fan or Watercooled? and so on.

And lastly do i build it myself or use people like overclockers/pc specialist etc to do it for me?

I'd very much like to hear what people would do if they were in my situation.

Many Thanks

Alistair

Hi and welcome

To you need monitor , etc in budget If so what size and resolution?

You have a few choices here Build yourself, Pre built system or parts list and then get overclockers to build it for you cost £100 to £200 approx.

If you are no rush zen 3 is due for release next month so you could see what that brings.

3080 is a good choice but how long before you can get one.

Hello

Sorry I should have stated budget is simply for the PC not monitor and accessories.

Time scale wise I am in no rush, happy to wait for the right product.

I do like the idea of self build I'm just not sure on the complexities of it all. Plus if water-cooled is the better option then that would make for a slightly nervous first start.

All in one water coolers are not complicated to fit just a few more fans and mounting of the radiator.

A top air cooler can match some water coolers and easier soloution.

Personally wait to see what zen 3 brings and 3080 becone more available plus amd will be releasing big Navi gpu adding into the mix.

No need to water cool - a quality air tower cooler combined with a quality/decent case airflow will keep things quiet and cool. Plus, less points of failure, minimal maintenance and arguably less noisy (if thinking of AIO/CLC too).
