Pentax releasing full frame(35MM) dSLR this year

Going for £1599 and £1,698 with the -BG6 Battery Grip.

No date as yet for when it will be available.

SRS (Watford) will have it on show on 26th and 27th:

Another look:

So £1600... £250 more than a D750 and around £600 less than a Nikon D810.

I guess that pricing hike isn't too bad by UK market standards and is still significantly less than a D810, but the US price of £1250 makes much more sense and I can see why people are excited about it over there.

Strange how it only has USB 2.0 when the K-3 has USB 3.0... makes no sense to reduce transfer speeds given the significantly higher file sizes of the new camera.

Anyone tempted?

Not in the slightest but I'm not a Pentax user.

What I find most disturbing is there is still no release date. A Pentax user could have got a D800 back in 2012 and had 4+ years of enjoyment, or waited for a near identical camera. That is why Pentax's market share is more ore less non-existent.

TBH, I would be way more interested if {Pentax ignored FF, and concentrated on affordable medium format cameras. They are so late to the FF game that it is entirely pointless. The affordable MFD market is wide open and Pentax is in the leading position. If I was as serious about landscape as I was 3-4 years ago I would own the Pentax 645Z right now. Put out a few different models, a cut-down budget one and a slightly superior pro model (Perhaps cut the resolution and increase the FPS) for example and Pentax would see a healthy busy IMO. Stop developing FF lens, make MF lenses, especially some tilt-shift offerings to give the ultimate landscape setup. Sales wont be huge of course but Pentax has almost no sales anyway so they should go the Leica route of selling fewer products at higher values. Its a very lucrative model, forget the race to the bottom and trying to shave every dime off your $800 DSLR that is barely differentiable from the Nikon and Canon models, sell $4-7k MFD cameras with $2-8k lenses, without any worry of people buying a Sigma or Tamron alternative.

A good description of all the features:

Anyone tempted?

Maybe as an upgrade to my k3ii, will be interesting to see if they start introducing a new line up of lenses and if the third parties come back.

At least Pentax has a new upgrade path instead of k3 > 646d.

Plus I do love it when it rains and most of the other makes dive for cover and I'm like what???

It's unwise imo to invest in Pentax DSLR gear... their future is uncertain and their lens choices limited.

This sort of thing is why this forum is so quiet now, it isn't about photography, its about gear and fanboys :(

Im interested, this is a camera for Pentaxians, we have asked for full frame, and they have given us a solid, well thought out camera at a decent price that allows me to use all my M and K series glass at their natural focal length. It isn't a world beater, but I don't want that or the price it will come at.
I will try before I buy as with Sony I have become very used to the all the manual focus aids that the EVF brings especially wide open @ F1.2. I can't see me giving up on that, but I will take some fast glass to a shop and try a few shots and then make a decision.

At least if I want a native full frame I now have an option and don't need to switch systems, which makes me a very happy man..

Not to mention the weather has been pretty inclement so you'll only really see portraits or time lapse stuff with the darker days.
Fingers crossed it'll be a cracking summer.

Let alone this forum is about overclocking computers and buying hardware, shock horror how people are interested in gear. But then 90% of the photography forums are there are mostly discussing gear, just like the content of a photograph magazine.

Then there is the fact a quick search of the forum shows that edgedemon has hardly been the pinnacle of photographic posting. I don't see any recent photos and almost everything he posts was gear related. Pot kettle black

That tilt screen mechanism is quite impressive.

Camera seems to be a little smaller than I thought. I think its to do with the pentaprism design - it looks very similar to the Pentax 6x7 (120 format) and anyone who used or has seen one of those knows they're fairly large. When the camera is photographed on its own it looks oddly bigger than when someone is handling it!

Had a play with one in March. It is a lovely body but I couldn't justify the cost of a part exchange for this and a couple of the new full frame lenses so the K3 II stays.
