People stepping in front of you

Cue him whining and trying to say that I was on the pavement on the 'wrong' side of the road (going against oncoming traffic rather than with it)
That's only where there are no pavements and you have to walk on the road itself, mainly for hikers on country roads... and it's only advisory.

I'm easily irritated, i wish i wasn't, but i am.

All these things bug me. people walking in front of me is very annoying. i rarely go to shopping centers these days, its too much hassle. Though when i am there i constantly find myself dodging everyone, who seem to be too important to do the same. i'm about 5ft 8, so not tall, but i'm 13 stone, so there is plenty of me to see. i'm too polite to walk into them though.

Kids running around in public places both irritate and amuse me (i have kids too, so i'm not judging parents here) They run at full speed, but only seem to look about 2 meters in front of them.

Shoppers with Trolleys.... get on with it!!!

i live and work, out in the coutryside, and its all the rage now, to go jogging along country roads, as if it wasn't bad enough. Run round the edge of the field, or find a road with a path dammit!

Since we are on the topic of cyclists, i don't encounter too many commuters, being in the country, but there are hordes of tour de france wannabes everywhere... at least the commuters are going somewhere. These guys will end up where they started! I dont see the appeal, your in the country! get off the road, get a mountain bike and go and enjoy it! It just seems odd to me.

my opinion on cyclists in towns/cities is that they are going far too fast. it takes them too long to stop at the speeds they are going. My Mother in law was hit by a cyclist while crossing the road. i dont know whose fault it was, but he hit her so hard, she had a brain injury, as she hasnt been the same since. She's always been a funny bit of kit, but now she's a right mess.

You genuinely think it is odd that some people would rather excercise in the countryside instead of round towns where there is more traffic etc.? People excercise and then go home so you end up where you started else you would just cycle forever, do people go to the gym and never go home again, or runners are all Forest Gumps and keep on running not going home? Why would someone riding a road bike get off the thing they enjoy riding and buy a mountain bike they might not enjoy riding? Are you sure it wasnt you that was hit by the bike?

It's funny but every road cyclist I know describes it as painful and quite a lonely hobby. The mountainbikers (me included) love it. Anyways...gents...can we bring this back on topic please?

unless it was a zebra crossing, or pelican crossing it's pretty obvious whos fault it was, unless you expect a bicycle to slow down to a crawl to let a pedestrian cross a road

too many people step in to the road without looking just because they can't hear a car

Sorry but just replying this one time. The pain thing is true but its a bage of honour, getting better through suffering etc thats why they tend to climb hills or ride long distances so much. There are many cycling clubs that do group rides so it doesnt really have to be lonely at all but that said I always ride solo. I work away from home and at the weekends its nice to have some peace and quiet early in the morning when theres little to no traffic, its good for my mental health.

cycle clubs are too try hard for me and the social cycle groups like skyride seem to be awfully slow rides to a coffee shop or pub so it's more about going for a drink or something to eat and less about cycling.

I went past some people on a skyride one time and they must have been going about 8mph on the flat stuff....

You may as well not bother trying to get any exercise as that pace unless your in the easiest gearing possible and practically in a spinning class that slowly moves

Had a moron with headphones on decide to cross the road when it's red man and my lights are green. So I got close to him and smashed the horn it gave him a jump. He then went round the corner and up a block and I see him doing the exact same thing again. Crossing with a red man and traffic coming from both sides.

I guess he won't learn until someone kneecaps him. Then they will get the blame not him.

Meh, its just my opinion. you didnt read it properly, but you obviously disagree, so you read it with intent to disagree. All i meant was, If you live in a city, you have to ride with traffic. But if your in the country, why ride with the traffic and all the stress and agro that comes with it, when you dont have to? I dont get it! Thousands do though, because there everywhere.

It's probably one of my most dislikes. People on their phones not looking where they are going, or people taking up the path; or, just standing there talking. Worse even though is people that don't say thanks when you hold the door open, i literally want to throw my keyboard at them until I hit enter.

Its reasonable to expect cyclists to ride at a speed where they can stop sufficiently quickly to avoid hitting someone, no?

Again with the personal insults, accusing someone of being less intelligent than you because they don't share your opinion on the subject.

Who appointed you the final say on the subject?

Not me, but when someone say they dont understand why people cycle in the countryside because they end up where they started is not sharing an opinion, where else are you supposed to go after you finished?

If you've ever read any thread on here on cycling it usually decends into the same old crap about tax, licencing and insurance. It is an incredibly tired well trodden path which even after all the corrections, people will still trot out the same old nonsense. You perhaps bore the brunt of that previously and I apologised for assuming you were a cyclist hater on a rant.

If people are going to talk nonsense, they are going to be called out on it, its a discussion forum. Dont like it then don't read or dont post nonsense then get butt hurt because you got called out.

Surely that would depend on the distance the person who steps out in front of the cyclist is, if someone is not willing to look before they step out in the road because they didnt hear anything coming, it doesnt matter what speed they are going, a collision is almost inevitable. God forbid if it was an electric car because it would probably be travelling faster.

True, but if your flying along at full chat, its not going to help is it

it's reasonable to expect them to obey the speed limits.
if your going 25mph it only takes a few metres to stop.
If the cyclist can not avoid the collision with a pedestrian then surely it's pretty obvious that there was no time to stop? or the cyclist would simply have done so or moved to the side and drove around them.

if you get hit crossing a road by any type of transport it's pretty obvious you did not attempt to do so in a safe manner

You live and work in the country surely you understand that being in the countryside is a far more pleasant a riding experience than in a town? Less polution, less busy, less stop start riding, plus if you want to ride a long distance you end up having to leave the town anyway.
