Pet Insurance and the ever increasing costs

That's fine, but when your pet needs hospital care, in patient stays the bills quickly run into multiple thousands, CT or MRI scans to even diagnose many issues run into thousands for pets with anaesthesia etc.
Thats fine if you have the money for it but I'm not sure MRI and CT scans for domestic pets is a great way for the average person to spend their money and it is obviously no wander the insurance cost are sky rocketing.

People treat their pets like family members, its no surprise to me they will spend money on their insurance and think it is money well spent.

Pre insurance I don't think that bill would have been a couple of grand, things being claimed on insurance always results in massive price gouging you only have to look at how much it costs an insurance company to fix a simple dent in a car! We had a cat bitten by a dog when I was a child and we changed the dressings ourselves after guidance from the vet and he was fine afterwards. I'm not totally anti pet insurance but I do think the market and the cost of vet care could do with some serious investigation as a lot of it seems pretty excessive.
I do think the normalisation of insurance encourages price hikes because you’re not spending your own money. No different to how hotels charge £15 for breakfast because they know it’s going on expenses. There’s definitely a happy medium.

Totally hence it is almost always cheaper to fix a car without going through insurance! I wouldn’t be surprised if the vets all charge less to those without insurance then they do to the insurance companies, the whole it’s not ‘real’ money thing!

Had to finally use our pet insurance today. Louie has an eye ulcer. He’s sporting the cone of shame

I highly doubt that. There’s so much cynicism about vets and it’s almost entirely undeserved.

I’ve seen vet bills before even entertaining a claim, the amounts are eye watering.

It’s a small price to pay relative to the cost of operations, x-rays, treatments.. if they require life long medication or assistance, you’re covered for that also.

you need to be careful which policy you take out for live long care, some only cover for the 12 months.

Gotta say, we cant fault pet plan for when we had Caspian, he really did have troubles at the end and between the vets and petplan, service second to none.

I get its annoying when they do put prices up each year however, honestly still was cheaper then no insurance.

Very good boy, but was very expensive. Bless his little cotton paws. :D

I've now had to claim twice this year for our 10 ½ year old lab.

One was a grass horn in her foot, the other was a suspected broken toe that turned out to be an infected nail.

Both were £1000+ costs from the vet. We have to pay the £99 excess each time and 20% off the total claim amount.

What annoys me though is the £4000 annual cover we have also includes all the 20% contribution payments we make. I find that ridiculous.

You mean 4000 actual = 3200?

We use animal friends.
Its 13ppm but have had to claim in year 1 due to allergies.
Thankfully it's 2000 per year. So Another 2000 next year. Because there are plans that are 2000 per condition that don't roll over. All the way to 2000 per condition per year.
And other value amounts.

Pretty much and it's £76 a month for her now.

That's animal friends as well.

So much. Kodas is 15ppm. But he's only 2.

Insurance for cars has gone up loads due to parts. Probably pet insurance.. Because they can.

Give a little glimpse into what a UK without an nhs would be like.

We got through Busters final bills today.

Needless to say, insurance is an absolute must as its covered all of it bar £150 quid excess.

He didnt make it to surgery and the costs were near enough £2500.
