petrol prices

What not going up fast enough for you? Never mind it has risen $23 in the last few months. At this rate a price near to $200 a barrel could be well achievable within the next 6 months.

Unless you believe there will be peace in the Middle East, massive new reserves found and a fall in global demand.

As long as we don't drop into a world wide recession on such a scale that oil from booming countries like India and China who lose demand from the west for cheap labour sends oil prices crashing back down to $70-80. But hey we're all playing the extremes right?

Never mind I must be imagining it then.

Doing my company accounts today I saw that this time last year I was paying 79p a litre for petrol, today I paid £1.12. Petrol is now my highest company expense and I am not even in any haulage business.

Still the Government insists that inflation is pretty low and i have heard it on here that we are largely shielded from rising oil prices

110.9 petrol 119.9 :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Totaly hacked off, and to think about 9 years back there were blockades about it being 88~ish, then it went down a bit can't belive it got this high with no blockades like last time.

Well needed. I can only dream of prices like that now.

The difference between petrol and diesel is getting stupid too used to be 2-3p now nearly 10p I'm glad I'm not driveng a derv because that would bug the hell out of me

I think we should not use cars for a day or two and stay at home in protest.

The action needed is we really need to invest in viable alternatives rather than just keep our fingers crossed that prices will fall.

If we don't and oil as speculated does rise considerably further, I think we can safely say the Golden age of affordable motoring could be over very shortly.

Does bother your employer though, they may go bust due to not bieng able to compete due to increased costs, ever thought about that?

Yup, the costs are just passed onto the people who hire us, and as we are hired by a company which is certain to not go bust, its pretty safe.

And since companys who are in competition with us do exactly the same processes as we do, their fuel costs will be the same!

As long as we don't drop into a world wide recession...
I world recession is all but gauranteed. We've had a world recession whenever the world expenditure on oil has risen above 4% of world GDP, it's typically in the 1-3% range. At $120 it's around 8% of world GDP.

That has a knock on effect which is called inflation. Inflation effects as all at the end of the day and could well put the Country into recession.

Saying that high fuel prices have no effect on you because you have a fuel card is a little naive. Virtually everything you purchase travels by road at some point.

Indeed, and probably partially accounts for soaring food prices as well. I see inflation is still 2% though :D

If it wasnt going up due to rising fuel costs it would be going up due to some crop failing or bird flu or something else anyway.

Just suck it up and pay it, its not as if we are at the point of not being able to buy any luxury goods or rationing, GTA4 and Xbox360s/PS3s still managed to fly off the shelves last week so people cant be that short of money due to rising fuel costs/inflation....

How many of those were bought on plastic...

I have a lot less disposable income than I had a year ago.

Can't really say its making any difference to my car habits at all. When I decided to buy a somewhat thirsty car I did projected running costs based on fuel up to and including £3 a litre. It will take £4-5 a litre before it changes my usage habits.
