I went to america not so long ago, and everythings so amazingly cheap over there. And people are freindlier, they have more respect, the food in general is better quality and better portions. The government is corrupt like ours but it looks after it's people. It's a nicer place in general and if I could move away from my family and freinds, i'd be away to the airport now, but I can't so I guess i'm stuck in ripoff britain.

You couldn't be more wrong, tax has very little to do with increasing energy costs.


US seems a nice place as a tourist, I would never live there, they are in for much harder times than us.
 
1 week in the garage I work at and the diesel has gone up by 5p!! unleaded by 3p. It's getting silly but the if you want a car you've got to pay. Moaning does naff all, trust me I get it all night where I work.

We get people asking "do you know when the price is going to go up?" OF course I don't lol.
 
My worry is that the increased value of petrol will increase the practice of tank drilling with thieving sods leaving half of it over your driveway.
 
Here in Oz we are now paying $1.60 a litre, which may seem ok to you, however six months ago it was as low as $0.99 a litre (only for a week mind you), so in that period we've had a 60% rise in petrol cost. There are predictions that it will go over $2 a litre soon.

That's got to hurt - our rises have been roughly 30% for petrol and 35% for Diesel. Although in monetary terms the rises have been similar, there's something about a large percentage jump that hits hard.

Our country is geared towards high fuel prices, cars are generally small and there's a large proportion of diesels. Countries such as USA and Australia must be hurting quite bad.
 
Latest in Derby area is 124.9 for regular diesel and 130.9 for V-Power.

The BP in Stoke on the A50 just seem to like being the most expensive. They always increase their price when the others do and are over 131.9 for regular diesel now.:eek:

If XanderThal repeated the statament of another, verbatim, then you'd do better to dispute that persons opinion rather than bludgeon an OcUK member because you don't agree with it.
It's fair to assume that Mr.King who, let's be honest, should be more informed than most on all things automotive made this statement after researching the fact a tad more than a student on an internet forum has done in order to dismiss it. If you have reliable evidence that Mr. King is wrong then please share it.

FWIW, I don't know if he's right or wrong, so it would be interesting to know either way.

I don't know if this has been posted already but the government will not want fuel prices lower, the higher the price is the more tax and more importantly VAT they collect so it is in their intersets in some ways for prices to be high. We unlike the French just sit back and take it, we should as a nation be demanding this extortionate robbery of everyones incomes to be stopped. This Labour government has lost the plot big time.

Is it better to fill up half a tank (£30ish) and make 2 visits a week or a carry a full tank a week? - Petrol station is 1 mile away.

fill up a full tank, probably save yourself some money, it seems the price is going up every second day atm

Agreed.
Generally you'd be better putting £20 in a few times a week as you'd be carrying less weight.
HOWEVER, it's going up in price so quickly at the moment you're probably better off filling it up.

When I 1st got my car 3 years ago it would take £65-67 to brim it, its about £85 now. I'm quite fortunate though,as a tankful will last me six weeks comfortably. Might start taking the bike to work on sunny days......thinking about it, if fuel could hit £2 or so a litre during the summer then it would keep you all off the roads. I could then use North Wales as my own personal race track :D. Think I'll write to Gordon......

I cant remember how much it cost to fill my car when I first got it but I'm not really bothered. £79 for a tank of Vpower now which to be honest isn't really THAT much?
