Petrol tanker drivers to go on strike

That's almost the same or slightly better mpg than I get out of a 1.7 cdti astra on 90% extra urban driving so you must be some sort of hypermiling god to achieve that in a 1.25. I had a 1.25 Fiesta on a 30 mile ish round trip commute back in 2008 and I was lucky if I got 280 miles out of a tank

I get it out of my 1.5 litre petrol car. Trip computer states average of 54mpg, petrol receipts and mileage from speedo (reset at fill up)from today state:

Petrol - 15.95L @ 137.9p/l (3.51 gallons)
Speedo - 176 miles

50.14mpg (70% m-way driving)

Trip computer aint far off and is probably a couple of MPG higher due to the last run being all motorway as the supermarket filling station is right on the side of the motorway for me

Just drove into Tesco Purley and there were 20 cars on the forecourt and 8 or 9 lined up to go in. Much busier than usual.

Trip says 230 miles left so I'll get mine once everyone else is full up.

Had about a quarter just under of a tank left, put in 110 quids of diesel to fill up the old girl. About 80 litres or so.

Rocked up to Tesco to get my prescription and there no queue for fuel. Went in handed over my paper, grabbed some food and headed home and there was a queue into Tesco and all the way down the carrigeway. I actually went 'wooahh' out loud :o

I get home and I've forgotten my drugs. I'll be ****ed if I'm gonna go and sit in all that traffic!

Actually I will

i only just realised why the drivers where striking today. guy moaning about shorter contracts and cut wages

welcome to 2012... do they think its only them who have those problems ?

oh wait no , officially its over the safety of the cheaper less moany workers replacing them... yea right !

This could still have been achieved if people had listened properly though, and just brimmed it whenever they next needed fuel, rather than all rushing at once, drying out stations, blocking roads etc. etc.

I disagree. If someone said all supermarkets were closing for a week this Monday. You would see everyone go and fill there cupboards.

All that has happened is everyone has filled up at once. If your the one who doesn't follow this then your the one with no fuel.

It's a similar mentality to people queuing for the new iPad or COD

Unless you plan on doing ~180 miles soon, why don't you just fill up when you normally fill up? It's people like that who see that they have half a tank left, and suddenly get an urge to keep it full all the time for no apparent reason!

Just went to fill up, absolute madness there!!! Luckily, there are two roads into the pump, so I went around the queue and went in via the road that didn't actually have a queue. They were out of diesel, all the other stations were out of everything! Didn't realise it was so bad. Seriously giving second thoughts to my 150 mile journey on Sunday,

I plan on doing 200 miles by Tuesday morning. So I'll fill up exactly when I usually do, soon after the light goes on.

Passed 5 stations in an 11 mile trip, non had any UL, took a slight detour on the way back and found one by chance, crammed 69 litres in now that was close on a 70 litre tank.

I was quite pleased with 55.5l on my 55l Focus tank a few months ago :D That was probably cutting it a little fine though.
