Oh you didn't. Here we go.
I thought Giggs already won it?
I'm guessing those nominations were voted for when Utd were considered incapable of conceding goals and a shoo-in for every trophy going including the Ryder Cup?
My prediction is it'll either go to Gerrard or Vidic depending on who wins the league.
[ASSE]Hinchy;13879419 said:Why are Van der Saar and Giggs in there then atpbx? Whether it is for this season or for 2008 alone, neither of those players should be in there. The others I can't really complain about for the main award..
Dear good every year its the same, for supposed football fans some of you seem to be ignorant of the most basic facts.
These nominations are for the calender year 08, voted for in january 09, by the players, hence why Ronaldo, the world player of the year and the best player in the world let alone the uk in 08 is in the nominations.
I had this debate with a number of people on the forum 12 months ago. It's based on the season. Nobody ever mentions last season when they talk about the PFA, it's always the current one.
Vidic should win it but he wouldn't be the first defender to be over looked.
The same applies to Stephen Ireland at Manchester City, a club where money is no object and where he has developed into a priceless commodity. Even though he’s surrounded by superstar names he has been the club’s most consistent performer throughout the season – as Mark Hughes has said on a number of occasions.
Then you would be wrong, its based on the calender year starting in jan and finishing in december, go google it.
Quoting Gordon Taylor, chief ex of the PFA, about todays nominations.
"Together with Nemanja Vidic and Edwin Van Der Sar, who are also nominated, Rio Ferdinand was instrumental in United’s tremendous run of clean sheets earlier in the season"
"After his amazing achievements of last year, it was always going to be difficult for Cristiano to match, let alone surpass those exploits. But, after an injury troubled start to the season, he has really come to the fore again. And for him to have scored over 20 goals".
"To keep 14 clean sheets in a row is nothing short of remarkable"
Why is he talking about the "tremendous run of clean sheets" if it doesn't include january onwards? He comments on Ronaldo only praise him for what he has done since he came back from injury yet ignore how he single handly won the league for them last year and played a major part in winning the CL- i wonder why that is.
You can quote what you like, you are still wrong, its for the calender year.
