Anywhere that says this? I can't find it anywhere.

Its
for
the
Calendar
Year.

The writers award is generally held in higher regard as it is for the END OF THE SEASON.

How can you judge in january, whether someone is player of the the year for the season?
You could pick Rooney who mabye had an above average first half, and then the day after the nominations are in, he fractures his pelvis and is out for the rest of the season.

The news on talksport has just confirmed it as well.

Just a thought. Do they vote again now they've drawn up a shortlist? If they do then every Utd player would have to vote for Gerrard, could you imagine Ratboy's face? :D

As for the year/season debate. I remember it being confirmed when Gerrard won it the other year that it was for the year however the reality is that it gets based on the season's form (well up untill Jan-Feb) because that's when the votes are held.

Anyway, Gerrard's the bookies favourite with Vidic just behind and then the rest being big outsiders which is probably about right.

edit: Still can't work out how Lampard and Alonso weren't nominated.

What a joke of a nominee list! I am not just saying this because I hate Man Utd either.

PS: shouldn't messi be in main

No.

The Professional Footballers' Association Players' Player of the Year (often called the PFA Players' Player of the Year, the Players' Player of the Year, or simply the Player of the Year) is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the year in English football.

And neither can you? You both look very knowledgeable at the moment.

Neither can I what?

You think saying a player would have walked to player of the year had he not been injured isn't slightly silly? You might be able to say he would be in contention but even that wouldn't be certain.

And you can't back up that comment?

So hypothetically if Fabregas would have hypothetically stayed fit then hypothetically he would have been the best player in the league this season

You really cant see the failing logic in that statement?

That's besides the pretty obvious fact that when fit when has Fabregas ever looked like being the leagues best player ahead of a Ronaldo or Gerrard?

Ireland for young player of the year and Gerrard for the main one probably. Half of the Man U players up there don't deserve a mention.

Cahill has had a better season that most of those players. Instrumental in keeping us going where ever he's had to play as one play or another drops off.

Game after game United fans on here want rid of giggs and he gets a nomination. He's had a fraction of the season cahill has.

For me then it has to be gerrard as the rest have fallen apart lately.

As it's for the calendar year then having giggs in there is even more of a joke.

Even if he hypothetically stayed fit then hypothetically he would NOT of been the best player in the league this season! :p

Edit, dunno if that makes sense!
