Very much a hot topic in the media at the moment, from what I can gauge Bale is currently the favourite with then either Suarez or RVP coming second so I wondered if we could get a poll going to see who's the popular choice on here? Other potential nominee's could be Mata, Michu & Fellaini who have all had very good seasons as well.

For me Bale shouldn't be anywhere higher than 3rd so if I remove him from the equation and it's between RVP and Suarez I'd probably have to give it to the latter simply due the consistency he's shown up till now whereas RVP has something like only 1 goal in his last 10 appearances.

I suspect Wilshire will win the young player of the year award as well (not that I agree with that either)

Suarez first, Mata second, Bale third.

Isn't the young version given to a random English player every year that turned up to training on time or something?

Rafael should be YPOTY if he still counts

Failing that Welbeck.

Trolllolololol.

:D Welbeck has my vote but if we are going with Welbeck, might as well put Torres in there for good measure trollololol:p

Id put my money on Suarez winning it though.

Suarez for me, with RvP and Bale not a million miles away.

He's impressed me a lot this year, not so much in terms of his quality, because it's been clear since he arrived that he's gifted player. It's his consistency that has gone up a notch or two, a common opinion 12 months ago (and one which I shared) was that for however great his technical qualities are, it's difficult to see Liverpool being able to rely on him as their regular goalscorer. It's a funny old game football, all that upset over Torres going, Liverpool bring in Suarez for half the price and I suspect they'd not swap him for the old Torres let alone the waste of space he's become.

I hate Suarez but can't see past him he seems to be have been consistent all season. RvP less so and Bale much less so.

Wilshere has been good this season, our best player most games so would imagine he's in with a shout of young player.

Interesting theory and I highly doubt any of them would admit to it but Torres at his peak was arguably the best 'actual' striker in the world

At the peak of his powers, you could quite easily make that argument no doubt. But now that we have a few years since Liverpool to go with the few years before, it's become quite apparent that his goalscoring at Liverpool was for the most part an outstanding run of form. He's not done it before, since, and didn't actually keep it up for his entire stay at Anfield.

Suarez
RvP/Bale

But everyone hates Suarez and Bale is British so he will win.

Rafael/Wilshire/Ben Arfa young player (though I think Ben Arfa is a little old)

I agree that at his peak Torres was the best and most complete striker in the world however Suarez is an all around better footballer, if that makes sense.

Right now, in this Liverpool side, I wouldn't swap Suarez for a 2007-10 Torres. Torres was for the most part hugely supply dependent, Suarez creates chances and beats teams on himself. He's on course to out score Torres in what was his most prolific season too - not bad considering he's doing most of the work himself, he's not meant to be as good a finisher as Torres is/was and playing in a weaker side.

I agree with your OP that it should be between Suarez and RvP, and the above is the reason why for me, even before RvP's dip in form, I'd still have had Suarez as my POTY. He's not just a goalscorer, he's not playing in a great side yet he's kept pace with (and since overtaken) RvP in the goals stakes - a great goalscorer, playing in a much stronger side. I know you don't like me saying it but he is a genius - he does things that other players (even those regarded as world class) can't do and there's not a player in the League that works harder than him too.

Despite all that, I don't believe for one minute that he'll win it. These awards quite often don't end up going to the player that should win it and rightly or wrongly, Suarez is the devil of English football and there will be plenty of players that wouldn't vote for Suarez even if he scored 50 goals by January.

I've got a terrible feeling that Bale will win it. 3rd would be more realistic as his form prior to the new year wasn't close to the likes of Suarez or RvP but for whatever reason, the voting is done around February time and that coincided with Bale's peak. He's also a bit of a media darling which also helps.

Rafael/Wilshire/Ben Arfa young player (though I think Ben Arfa is a little old)

Hasn't Ben Arfa been injured for the majority of the season? I think there's a load better candidates than him :p

As it is at the moment, Suarez, RVP, Bale. But I can see that changing before the season finishes.

I meant my own personal opinion of who I'd give it to, not a prediction on what the official award will end up as.
