PFA Player & Young Player of the Year 2011

So he's scored in 8 league games this season (and against Chelsea in the CS)

As I said, I didn't check it. It seemed a little outrageous though.

edit: and I guess it must have been before his 3 at the weekend as he's scored 17 goals now.

edit2: Just read it again, I got it slightly wrong; in his last 20 games he's scored 14 goals and they all came in 5 games. Again, I've not checked it though.

Just checked Tevez's goal scoring stats this season also

Liverpool 2 (1 pen)
Wigan 1
Chelsea 1
Newcastle 1 (pen)
Blackpool 2
Fulham 2
Bolton 1
Newcastle 2
Wolves 2

So while Berbatov has only scored in 8 league games this season Tevez the next highest goal scorer in the league has only scored in 9 (Tevez also scored in 2 FA Cup ties against Leicester)

Just FYI Andy Carroll the third highest goal scorer this season (11) has also scored in 9 league games

Aston Villa 3
Wolves 1
West Ham 1
Arsenal 1
Blackburn 1
Bolton 1
Chelsea 1
Liverpool 1
Man City 1

That could be true given Berbatov has only scored in the league and not in the Champions League of which he has played a fair amount of the games. Also following the hat-trick against Liverpool he went 11 games IIRC without scoring before the Blackburn game - it's that stat that probably is counting against him (prior to this weekend at least)

People are saying Bale and VDV for PFA player of the year, but Modric has been Spurs best player so far this season. But he wont get player of the year because most of what he does goes largely unnoticed.

For me it will be Teves, and Bale for the young player.

I highly doubt either will win the main one tbh, Bale will get Young Player no questions asked, VDV probably wont get anything other than maybe being widely acknowledged as the signing of the season

I dont watch enough of Spurs to agree with you about Modric but out of the 3 he's the one I'd most want at United :p

Nasri has been great, not 100% sure he's been good enough though. Though Fabregas hasn't played that much over the last calendar year, when he has been on the pitch he is in my opinion the best player in the league.

When Nasri was playing without Fabregas he was incredible, problem is when he's shifted out wide and everything goes thru Fab he seems rather wasted :(

He has been out wide all season barring a game or so. There is less reliance on him with Fabregas in the team I suppose, but he's still playing really well, just not as good as Fabregas

My nominations (in no particular order):

PFA:
Nasri
Tevez
Carroll
Vidic
Bale
Van der Vaart

YPFA:
Nasri
Bale
Carroll
Hart
Nani
Albrighton

Not 100% convinced on having Carroll in for PFA, I think if he wasn't playing for a newly promoted club and scored so many goals I'd have left him out in favour of e.g. Berbatov. I'm sure some Toon fans would say he hasn't even been their best player this season.
Would have liked to have found room for Kompany too.

Edit: Waste of (not much) space award goes to Arshavin.

Yup, dunno what he's talking about, he's almost never played in the middle, well, in central midfield.

his overall game has been rubbish though, our single most clinical player inside the 18 yard box, worthless on the wing, playmaker while Fabregas is or isn't player, he's created incredibly little, his passing has been massively worse than last year, crossing, nope, freekicks, poor.

He's ridiculously becoming closer and closer to a all out striker, and he's fantastic inside the box, but most of his goals come from being played in behind the defence, as his last goal. He was always FAR better right behind the striker than on the wing or further back in central midfield, he's getting further and further forward and less good at everything else.

Not so bad if we switch to 4-4-2 and play him upfront, against Wigan he had one goal, one run, and not much of anything else at all.

Fabregas is a vastly better player and consistantly throughout every 90mins bar one performance I think this year pings short/long passes, high and low, anywhere on the pitch, setting up chance after chance. Winning tackles, getting us out of tight situations, closing down the ball more than most, running for 90mins non stop full effort all the time. No one at Arsenal has come close.

Bale/Rafael are the media darlings so probably both have the best shot at young player of the year.

Nasri is being rated very highly this year, so has a good shot at winning it even though he shouldn't. Giggs is doing his usual "the PFA's are coming up, and what, I've got a shot at a new contract, time for a few decent games" thing, so he's got a chance. Berbatov has probably no shot but is the best player at Utd at the moment by a mile, actual passing/quality are second best to running around like a headless chicken in England though hence no chance he'll win.

Tevez, Kompany, Vidic, Nani have a shot, and extreme outside shots would be Charlie Adams, etherington and Brunt, all huge for their clubs and having great years but not at big enough clubs.

He is?

I cant believe I've forgotten all about Hernandez, might not play week in week out but has scored 9 goals for us this season which is a great return. Surely should be considered at least for the Young Player award?
