Philips Momentum - 43" 4K HDR

Apparently May early release, but June/July wider availability.

I've heard from the RPS article on this that HDR is not supported if fed from an Nvida card though,,,

That would be odd if true, I think they probably just got their wires crossed. I've used several HDR-capable monitors of varying 'HDR level' and many of these have included FreeSync support. But never has HDR only been locked to one vendor or the other. I'll be finding out soon enough.

Yeah will be interested to see reviews on this. Particularly from the excellent TFTCentral, who provided an excellent and honest review of the BDM4065UC.

As did I.

The more reviews the merrier, especially when they're written from quite different perspectives and cover slightly different aspects as well. I've also provided detailed (and honest, and fair) reviews of the BDM4350UC and BDM4037UW. So have a lot of experience with using and reviewing large UHD displays of this sort.

Looking forward to seeing your thoughts too, if you pick one up. It certainly looks great.

I'm not picking one up, but I am being sent a review sample courtesy of Philips. I take it from your reaction(s) in this thread that you're not familiar with my work? Maybe my signature isn't displaying and you have no idea about my site. I'm sure somebody else can fill you in, I don't really like to do direct/active self-promotion.

Is it just me or does that price actually seem reasonable compared to what most 'new tech' monitors cost these days.

On a side note though, I currently use an LG 43" 4K screen for work and I have to say that the thought of a screen that size and that close to me displaying at 1000 nits sounds like it would be physically painful to look at!

You have to remember that the monitor has dimming zones and only select content will be pulsed up to 1000 cd/m2 (or nits, if you prefer headlice). I've used a monitor with similar capability before (the ASUS PA32UC) and didn't find the pulses too bad. Not uncomfortable, in fact it was the flooding of the darker shades in dimming zones that pulsed that high that was the issue. With this being a VA panel rather than IPS-type, it might not be such an issue. Hopefully the user has some flexibility to tone the maximum luminance down a bit if they prefer as well.

Ah sorry I have sigs hidden, I have read pcmonitors.info extensively before great site!

No problem. My name alone is highly cryptic! :D

It's a very thorough and well written review, thanks PCM2!

It sounds like a fantastic monitor in many respects, it would be an instant upgrade from my existing BDM4065UC, were it not for the comments on the sub-pixel layout. I sit only 50-60cm from my current 40" Philips. This has a VA panel too so I don't know if the subpixel issue is worse/the same on this new model?

Argh why does pcmonitors.info come up with a block for spyware when I try it at work.

I have no idea. It shouldn't do. I haven't had anybody else report such things and Google has not flagged it as having any security issues whatsoever (and I can assure you - it does not have Spyware and hasn't been hacked). See also https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/pcmonitors.info and other similar scanners.

Can you access YouTube? Do other sites give you this issue? Could be that your work doesn't like embedded YouTube videos or something.

No problem. It has been too long since I've used the BDM4065UC and I didn't really make any thorough observations on that aspect, so not sure how it compares. As I say in the review, some users wouldn't notice the issue even from relatively close to the screen. And it is something you can get used to I feel.
