Phoenix Point - new strategy game from X-COM creator Julian Gollop

Perfect, thanks!

And the red 'alien' symbols on squares at the very outside of each map - are they escape points for them? Or are they supposed to indicate where they can come from in the first place?

Depends the map yes and yes. :)
On some maps big enemies like Chirons (or bigger) would try to escape if they are injured. On other maps like Nest, Lair, ambush is were the enemies coming from

One (hopefully) last daft question that I can't find the answer to anywhere. I just noticed that my inventory keeps weapon mags even when they're empty. But to what end? Can I do anything with them beyond scrapping them?

Stack them. Also press the Ammo button next to your weapons. They will refill sending empty clips to inventory.

This happens because you can use weapons without knowing the tech to make them, so the system tracks each bullet used and left.

I'm up to the point of trying to capture live aliens.

1st issue was that I had a paralysed mindfragger, but the game bug where a worm was stuck on top of a lamppost, so can't be attacked. By the time I could make it next to it, to allow it to explode, the mindfragger had bled out.

That's just a bug though. The other bit I can't work out was how to capture an Arthron. Use dash, get behind it, strike with a nearalyser .... then it turns around and empties a magazine into my defenceless soldier and kills him! How can you perform the necessary multiple strikes on an alien type that gets reaction fire?

Not at that stage by a long shot so could be a million miles off, but try destroying the gun first?

Found a bug that's bad enough I don't think I'll continue playing until it's repaired. Really odd one too.

It seems that if a mission has a Scylla in it, once it's been killed you can't save. Or, to be more accurate, you can save but that save file will refuse to load in future.

Given the possibilities of crashing whenever the alien turn is on, and that these missions especially tend to take a long time to complete, I'm thinking I'll wait for a patch.

Shame, because I was really enjoying the game.

There's been a big update released (maybe two).

Just started playing again, having to still try and avoid most media on it to avoid too many spoilers, but at the same time, I hate running the risk of doing something completely daft and blowing the run (yet not knowing it for ages).

Enjoying it though, play a mission or two at a time, about to hit my first nest (should have done it earlier, run out of things to research).

Not got any new classes yet, but can see how combining assault and sniper is really powerful.

Watched a lot (a hell of a lot) of xcom rebalanced, so having to remind myself I can move after shooting, remembering to come out for a good angle, shoot, then retreat back to being completely out of sight when possible.

I would advice you not to combine classes until you get access to the ones from the factions. Assault - Berserker or Sniper - Infiltrator are really amazing.

I know it's a double post, but it's 36 hours apart, that's alright surely?

Just got my first stealth recruit. Assuming stealth works how I think, that seems ridiculously abusable if you get a character who has the additional stealth skill available to them? 100% stealth would doable (and mutations seem to give more possibilities?). Could I then just use a melee weapon (silent I presume), and chop people up without them ever knowing about me?
