problem occours when someone rings in only, none of the phones will ring exept 1 which will ring continuously (without a break in the ring), the broadband goes off and does not re-connect for about a minute.

I plugged the router into the master sockets test port and tested it, still causing problems, what i was thinking of doing was re-wiring the section from the junction box coming into the house (the box with the 2 wires, running cat5 from here to the master socket and testing it by plugging the router in the master socket test plug).

Does anybody else have any suggestions? surely if i do this and test it, it proves that its a problem outside of our house?

Why dont you have the master socket where the wires enter the house? Then checkout all of the house wiring. Preferably have Filtered master socket face plate £12 ( XTE-2005 Master Faceplate )
Also checkout the modem cable you are using - these are often not suitable. Best stick to just the centre 2 wires connected

Do the phones ring as they should if you take all the ADSL stuff out of the picture? Because if they don't, you can report it as a voice fault and get it fixed.

Havnt tried this, but i will indeed try it when i get home...

Am i correct in saying that if i hook up a master socket where the 2 wires are coming into the house, and its still causing the same problem...then its upto BT to sort out (At their expense?)

Course its not legal to shift master sockets about. But if it was legal I would put the master socket where the wires come into the house. It does not matter which way round the wires go on the A and B posts. I would disengage the rest of the house wiring from the master socket and then plug in a telephone to the socket and check out the situation both with the modem and without.
wiring colours etc.

If you call out BT and they attribute the cause to your side of the wiring they charge so narrow down the fault before calling
