phoned in sick...went to a festival...got caught...can I get sacked ?

How did you get nothing more than a warning for Gross Misconduct? I thought that's instant dismissal nearly everywhere.

Gross misconduct gives the potential for instant dismissal, not an automatic instant dismissal.

Depending on how the hearing went, previous history, mitigating circumstances etc depends on the actual result.

I haven't had one day off in the last 20 years.
In fact I even went to work when I was on the dole.
Today my bosses are trying to talk me into taking some holidays because I've got 5 weeks to get in before christmas.

So not only do you have no soul, you are also a thief.

Some role model you are

Talk them into paying you to both take holidays and work.

It helps to read the thread (and I don't do roll eyes).
While I was on the dole I got off my arse and volunteered myself into a Juvenile prison and the NHS.
It worked and I've got a great job.
Apologise whenever you want.

It was wrong of the OP to do what he did but I find some peoples responses rather funny.

At the end of the day most people don't like work, if you do then well done, you have either been very lucky and got one of the few fun jobs or your personal life sucks so badly that work is somehow better.

I am not some workshy oaf and do enjoy work occasionaly but most of time i would rater not go.

I don't pull sickies simply because I can't lie well :p and it is my career. if I didnt care about the job I wouldn't feel guilty, if they give you a crap job, give them a crap emplyee. :D

I would say a warning is a fair outcome.

I recently got a warning for getting a laptop delivered and turning it on, regardless of the fact people get stuff sent here all the time, we have had problems with people just going over the top and leeching like crazy and doing no work, even playing games.

so because i had the lappy on the desk and someone mentioned it to a manager, it turned into "playing on laptop instead of working"

still disputing it however. wish me luck.

Very much agree with you, I'll go of work when I need too, sick or not. I feel slightly guilty at the time, but then i realize that I dont actually give a crap what they think really, I know the jobs not for life :-)

How does that equate to having integrity?
