phoned in sick...went to a festival...got caught...can I get sacked ?

We were always over worked and never made any progress seeing the workload go down. I was regularly called a ******* ****, ******** ***** in fact think of the worst expletives you can think of and I was called that by the 'customers' I had to deal with. When I say regularly I mean every 3rd person. I was emotionally blackmailed by customers on a daily basis and usually threatened with physical violence by them about once a week/fortnight.

What the... What kinda job was that?

everyone is talking rubbish.

like not one of you have ever called in sick, when infact you could have worked and you would have been fine? or called in sick to do something social.

come off it, you act all "oh, im goody goody!"

I've had about 3 days of genuine sickness in the last 15 years.

Are you basing your assumption on vast amounts of personal experience?

What annoys me is people who throw teddy out of pram and go "off on the sick" after threatening to "go off on the sick".

Honestly if you don't like where you work that much simply resign and find a better job!

can just sack me straight away ?

I bloody hope so, I would in a total flash regardless of the situation.

the ONLY place you could work (I haven't read the thread I was just moved to post having seen the first post!) where you could get away with this is something like a public service. They have to follow the book and I'm not sure you have managed to break the rules enough for that.

Technically I think you have to be told you shouldn't call in sick and go to a festival again and then be given an amount of time to not do it again.

Personally i would fire you faster than you can say "Alan Sugar"

I haven't had one day off in the last 20 years.
In fact I even went to work when I was on the dole.
Today my bosses are trying to talk me into taking some holidays because I've got 5 weeks to get in before christmas.

yep, pretty much the same here, I'm being paid for 2 weeks because I can't take it before the end of august.

I have taken a day off sick once or twice but literally once or twice in the last 14 years and felt seriously guilty.

I've made up the odd dentist appointment to hide a job interview because the line of work I'm in doesn't take that too kindly but aside from that, I'm clean.

the fact ive only ever had one job and quit, and have decided never to work for anybody again then no.

to cut a long story short I was half cut and ended up speaking to my boss on the phone and told him I was at T in the Park
I have been told I will have to attend a disciplinary hearing, I have had a verbal warning before for time keeping and attendance which will still be on my file

will it have to go on to a written warning now or is it classed as being serious enough that they can just sack me straight away ?

grats when your boss calls dont answer. tip #1 free of charge.
