PhysX + Cellfactor = great fun.

Dude could you? and maybe a couple of vids with fraps? im really interested to see how it performs without the ppu.

I'll give it a go myself when i get home aswell.
I'm at school at the moment, but i'll happily post them when i get home :)

aaw ok no probs im at work :( i'll try and do some myself later on and post the results, thats if i can hold off the gf long enough :p

Just to nail something down here, we have two users I believe in this thread with PPU's one has a ATI X1900XTX but has v.bad fps and the other a 7800GTX that is getting better FPS?

(I am not trolling or creating an arguement) I am simply trying to establish if Cellfactor happens to work considerably better with nVidia for whatever reason.

Also are there any comparison reviews available yet for what improvements (if any) SLI gives to Cellfactor?

1: The PPU driver development team need to get their act together.

2: ATI and Nvidia need to streamline their drivers to add PPU support. Which will never happen becasue they are chasing SLI/Crossfire Physics.

3: Game developers need to streamline their code and work closer together with the PPU driver development team. Which will never happen becase they never do it for the graphics card industry anyway (look at Oblivion for instance, bad FPS even on SLI/Crossfire).

After all the support I have given PPU's I have to change my mind and say that if something is not sorted out quickly this thing is going to flop.

Cant nvidia/ati just make their own little physics card, and wack it on all their cards running a gpu in the middle and a little physics card? Cant a dual card have one gpu running the game and one doing phsyics and shadows or something? I'm sure this would be a hell of a lot more powerfull than a physx ppu and it'll probably work.

Search for HavokFX. NVIDIA are looking at an all in one solution which they hope that can do just as much as a PhysX PPU.

An example article http://dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=1332

You can check the Havok website directly: http://www.havok.com/content/view/187/77/

Chances of this happening, slim to none!

What is business reason for them to do this, why should game developers support PhsyX which has little or no support base, in terms of Nvidia and ATI I'm sure they would rather support their GFX cards doing some of this or produce their own PPU.

PhsyX is in real trouble IMHO.

Agreed.

After playing around with the Novodex Rocket demo and seeing / feeling the realism of the physics, I'd been looking forward to hardware acceleration. Every instance of hardware acceleration seems disappointing so far..... :(

Considering the PPU unit hasnt even been offically released to the public ( all you have atm is an OEM versions ) it seems a bit early to **** it off, if it truly does play the same on systems with/without PPU it strongly suggests a driver issue to me, an issue that should be able to be worked out. I would certainly hope so.

To expect things to work properly before there offical release( both game and PPU) is a little hopefull, some games come out with all sorts of graphical problems that require updated Drivers, or a patch for the game.

I truly think the cell factor looks like an amazing display of what will be possible in future, i am however sure it will require a beast of a machine to run well.

Just a quick question. Does anyone know if Cellfactor is multithreaded for those of us running dual cores, or multiple processors.

Well i think it looks really good tbh i mean ya the eye candy needs a bit of improvement but he did say he did not have everything on max! but the effects on the objects looks really good and that water out of the brawl .

When is this game due for release? because i think all we need its July august to come along with the new DX10 cards which hopefully after a few models will have phsyx built in and this game will be a milestone in pc gaming.

Or thats my thoughts on it anyways. but it is a good point about the people who can't afford the latest its going to crush my C-Card to get Xfire DX10 I'm sure :(

Thanks

Im pretty sure there are no plans for a full version as of yet, its basically just a tech demo for now. I think they're waiting to see if enough people buy into physx before they waste their time making a full game! very sensible if u ask me ;)

Well it certainly doesnt look as good in software! or is that coz im running through the editor?

Do you know whats funny about his screenshots! during physix obviously being used by exposions etc the fps is probs still higher than a few of the shots we've already seen when physix processors are being used ;)
