PhysX NextCarGame

Because Car Game has blocks falling down and aesthetic destruction in a small sandbox. Things that PhysX gets shot down for constantly. Can't win an argument with people who are (rightfully mind you) just peeved that their AMD card can't use the same effects because they're locked out.

"lol Batman smoke ;>"

And Stalker, seriously?...

Volumetric smoke in Stalker is implemented in environmental effects only, therefore it's static and isn't used in things such as explosions and the like. Randomly generated scenarios at any point in time which could put any real load on the CPU. That's not to say that similar effects in Batman are that much better, but that is the real argument.

Next Car Game's physics effects aren't anything ground breaking. We've seen 'fall down' destruction in Crysis sandbox and other things for years. There isn't any real in game scenarios where these effects are used at all. Least of all on the CPU. In Next Car Game you're talking about, again, a small sandbox environment with very minimal workloads. Mesh colliding and a few blocks. The best example of particle and volumetric physics is Borderlands 2, but examples like this are gold dust for the reasons Orangey rightfully pointed out.

I think we can all agree that in the right hands PhysX could be better than what it is, but if people think that the moment it became open source we'd be seeing amazing effects they're asking to be backhanded by developers as they're opening up a whole can of worms for them. You can't please everyone.

Good post and some very good points.

What I dont agree with, is all that in Borderlands 2 can't be run on the CPU if they really wanted to am sure it can easy be done. They is no way that can only be done just on the GPU only.

Sorry to be rude Shankly, but I am assuming that your extensive background in physics simulation is behind this statement?

The physics effects seen in Borderlands 2 cannot be replicated in real-time with a CPU. CPUs are serial processors and not programmable. A GPU is a programmable parallel processor, and complex physics problems (just like rendering graphics) require that many many small problems be solved simultaneously. Your statement might just as well have been that the graphics seen in BF4 (or insert any other title here) could be done without a GPU.

AMD's GPUs have this capability (as seen with TressFX) and I think that they're doing the right thing by making it an open standard.

I agree that the physics seen in that car game are impressive and I applaud their efforts. Do you know if it's calculated on the fly, or only the collisions are and then a pre-rendered destruction effect is applied?

PhysX or PhysicS, the game looks good and a greenlight game to boot. I will be getting this.

Yep, lools like the perfect game to replace my grid 2 demolition derby fix :)

As for physx, most will know I'm not a huge fan of it but I have a feeling the witcher 3 may turn my head :D

Just jumped on the pre alpha, performance is good, though no SLI support as of yet and an engine frame lock at 60fps, a single 780 at 1110/6000 kept a solid 60fps fully maxed out at 1080, giving around 60-70% gpu usage.

Plays very very well for pre-alpha, screenies below:

Steering depends how badly the front end is smashed in, on a few occasions I've found my self only able to drive around in circles or even hit a bit of debris in front of me to find my car won't drive over it :p

Very good effort thus far :D

Edit: I derped, had vsync enabled which sync'd to 60hz not 120hz, disabled it an its averaging around 110fps with 99% GPU usage :)

'Twas only in jest, some of those cars toward the end of that video looked horrendous. I will always welcome a good car game on PC. So long as it's not too serious on the simulation front, as I'm cack at racing.

Looking very good, Question is it Online also?

CPU physics that does not require an Nvidia GPU and it looks really good.

Green corner response: But but but.... Nvidia PhysX is better...blah...blah..waffle...plug...bamboozle with techno babble....

At the moment no, single player only, 2 tracks (gravel and tarmac, 12 and 24 player) as well as a destruction derby type mode in its own track again in 12 and 24 player. The AI isn't all that bad either :)

If its of interest I can try do a twitch TV stream via shadowplay later on.

Edit: You can also change the engine and tyre layout to suit the player too :)

Nice I thought it was SP only so far. Think i'll hang in there for Online play would be the only reason I buy this game for.

PS1 days of destruction Derby.

Its on offer just now at $25, came in just over £15, worth it for what is going to be a great game.

Sorry, but. yeah......:)

Jesus...

More like.

OP makes thread saying "Look we don't need PhysX these cars break into little bits and it's all on the CPU."

Please...it's Christmas but lay off the jokes and stick with the logic.

Who's more likely to ignore the facts. Nvidia users who can play it regardless or the bitter people who normally cannot.

Played it for 10 minutes it's not bad but hardly worth shouting home about on the physics front.

I'll have a dig about and see when online is going to be implemented, there is an option for online its just not clickable at the moment, so only a matter of time.
