Rockerfeller Centre.

The best view of NYC skyline isn't actually from the Empire State, as that is the most iconic building now since the WTC is gone, so if you take it from there, you lose that because you are on it.

The other good view would be the chrysler building but I didn't go up there.

Ah just reading up on it - because it's F11 apparently the light is less likely to star up. It has to do with the way that the light hits the aperture blades and the lenses diffraction point. Having a nice expensive lens with rounded aperture blades is also a big advantage.

Stunning shot Raymond looking forward to my NYC trip now, just to source a 10-20mm

Funnily enough I wish I had a 50mm a lot of the time, this was with a 35L, 7 photos stitched.

Cracker shot Raymond. Awesome work.

Thank you :)

Lovely shot!

Genuine question though, how'd you get a 25s shot without massive flare from all the lights? I know it's f11, but still :s

I dunno the science, i just know I never really have that problem lol

What did you take with you then? The 35L, plus (vaguely remember you mentioning you damaged your 70-200) xD?

(Also, any chance I can get a higher res version to throw into my wallpaper loop? :) )

I took 35L and 45 TS, although I didn't get a chance to use it, it stayed in the suitcase most of the trip actually lol.

The thing that broke is the clear plastic screen on the 35L's distance meter, sending it off to be replaced on Monday, 3 day return from CPS :D

This is off Empire tate in the day, towards downtown.

Brilliant shots Ray, been there several times so I know it well.

Most memorably was the first time in 2001.
I took these on September 10th before we flew home that night
