I RARELY do portrait shots, but I thought I'd prat around with low key just using a flashgun instead of any studio equipment and see what I can do. Took the shot a while ago but only just got round to having a look at it due to other commitments.

Were you very far away? Exif says it's 2.8 and 160mm so I'd have expected shallower DOF unless you were miles away!

Yeah, good guess I was miles away! I was at the back of a Cathedral, well 2/3rds back, and it's quite a large one.
This one is a it overexposed, isn't it.

That kind of oe you can control very easily with the highlight slider in lightroom
Those kinds of stage shots look sublime with some dof but the only way to do that really is to be up closer to the action, I find dof makes the stage characters pop out!
Last night I did some lens micro adjustment adjustment tests, turns out the Sigma 50 1.4 is perfect at 0, my sample is a good sample! The 17-40L however required -5 on the W scale to be as sharp. Adjustments saved, mind at rest
