The fringing annoys me (I know it's a problem with primes wide open). I managed to get rid of the purple in lightroom but there is still quite a lot of green. Trying to repair the green seemed to re-introduce the purple! Any tips (other than stopping down)?

Not like that no, if you still want some colour I'd suggest doing a little split toning in the shadows. What I'd personally do is lower the brightness of the foliage (either with sliders or by burning it in) so that you get the lightness of the model's hair/skin contrasting with a darker background.
After struggling for a few days to get decent, sharp images indoors, despite using my external flash, I discovered the 1/focal length rule and subsequently tried a tripod and again I am getting sharp images such as this. I am really new to this hobby and feel like I have a mountain to climb, but I guess that is part of the fun! (I know the composition isn't great here, I am just pleased with the sharpness):
