Sat looking through some shots from last year which has reminded me I haven't been out with the camera in too long!

Going to treat myself to an upgrade to the D7100 and then start saving for some proper telephoto glass to put on it!

Here's some of last years shots.

Got down to Coningsby for the first time in a while and whilst I only spent a few hours there it was well worth the visit.
As usual it is very Typhoon heavy, but that's to be expected. That said, there were a few different aircraft for me to enjoy.

It is fair to say I absolutely love the BoB painted Typhoon!

A visitor that I've not seen at Coningsby before, making deliveries for the Sentry fleet apparently.

This last one highlighted how variable the weather conditions were. I really like this shot, and it is completely unedited as I like it just the way it is!

Nice! I was hoping to get down there for the heavy stuff but work isn't playing ball for me :-(

Wasn't for me either today, flight of 3 52's left Minot AFB This morning bound for fairford. Luckily for me one went tech and had to turn around meaning it didn't arrive until around 7.30 this evening. Hope to catch the other 2 in the coming weeks returning from their sorties.

Hi Luke,

I'm off to Cosford on Sunday, first time photographing an air show, it looks like it might be cloudy... I hear conflicting povs on whether to shoot aperture or shutter on fast jets... if I shot aperture mode how does the camera stipulate the shutter speed to make sure its high enough to capture the jets without skewing the shot?

In aperture mode, the camera will just use the exposure appropriate for the ISO set. Not an issue if it's nice and sunny but if it's cloudy then you might be better off in shutter mode.

In shutter mode it'll just use the widest aperture and then auto ISO. The only issue with that is that often, when you're pointing at the sky, the metering will try to expose the shot for the sky. This means you end up with a nicely exposed sky and a very dark plane. If you're using auto ISO then you'll probably need like +1 to +2 exposure set depending on the shot.
