[PIC_THREAD] Weddings

Went to a wedding over Easter weekend, and took several photos to share with our mutual friends. Couldn't make all of them public as per the couple's request so here are a few of the decor. Shot with my D90 + Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 or Nikkor 50 f/1.8. C&C welcome as usual.

I couldn't get the cross processing the way I wanted after having done them; not sure it suits them either (too yellowish), but it was a bit of fun playing around. More practice needed...

Thanks. I love taking them; actually find them the easiest (bride and groom are elsewhere, official tog probably with the bride, guests at the bar, etc), and if it means sneaking off from my friends for 15-20 mins before everyone sits down, so be it.

I like to think the bride or organiser has spent a lot of time on the details so it's worth capturing. At none of the weddings I have been to recently, have I actually seen what the official tog has produced and if we've duplicated shots or if they've seen things from a different perspective from me, etc.

Exactly !

Sometimes by the time I get back, I have to ask people to move to a corner or be creative with the angles.

And yes, they spent all that time to do them and it is important to capture them, but capturing them without people is the challenging part.

I have been asked to be the main photographer for my mates mums wedding in June/July. They can't afford a photographer and said they will be happy with "snaps".

I am a bit nervous, but I am working for free food and booze :P. my mate said his mum might chuck me a couple of pounds but never done a wedding before :O

If you have time try and tag along to someone else you might know where you can follow around/maybe even be a second tog.

Also, make sure you have a rough idea of the photos that they might want/require (i.e. look through this thread and wedding blogs for the typical 'standard' shots at least)

The difference between a wedding photographer and a good wedding photographer is the ability to compose and find great light no matter the subject. I love your work Raymond..your pictures are of the highest quality in both regards.

I'm bouncing around an idea to provide a Black and White only package alongside the usual, I shoot with BW in mind so much now it makes sense and I'm completely comfortable in my process for it now. Hmm.

I've shot this exact same cake at a wedding once, how bizarre! Well, at least it looks exactly the same. I'll have to trawl through the archive and see if I can find it :p
