My new 2005 plate Renault Clio 1.2 Expression (75) 16V :D

Picked her up on Saturday, Auto windows, Auto wing mirrors, Radio steering wheel stalk, ABS, Power Steering, Sunroof, Driver and passenger airbags, Central locking, Key fob to open and lock, alarm, immobiliser, CD player etc etc

Lots of mod cons :D Although most of them wont impress some of you, i had a 96 fiat punto that was dying before i got this so to me this is like brand new!

So happy :D

Anyway, heres the pics!

Congrats on getting your car and I hope you enjoy it. The advantage of the base spec Clio is there is very little to go wrong and you should be able to run it on a shoe string budget.

Re your credit history (I remember your thread about it a while ago), you can apply for a notice of correction if your dad has been fraudulently making applications in your name. I assume you have a copy of your credit report from www.experian.co.uk etc?

To everyone else including Fox who have been laying into him… Seriously Why? You guys have gone way over the top on this.

1)It’s not the best Car but it isn’t the end of the world and it does exactly what it says on the tin. You buy Tesco beans you expect Tesco beans, James went into this without high expectations and no illusions and he is happy.

2)He is borrowing circa 7k to buy it (double what it is worth) but unfortunately this is one of the only options for him.

3)He has no credit history and would not get finance elsewhere, it could take him 1-2 years at least to secure enough of a stable history to get finance to buy from a dealer with the history builder Credit Cards etc and that assumes more stability in home situation etc.

4)He needs a car that is functional to get him to work so he can well er work to earn money to live.

5)Unfortunately to get a reasonable car, given his circumstances (i.e. no one else to borrow from) this is surprisingly one of the few options.

6)Treating this as a lease hire, which as it is on finance it effectively is, he is paying £150pm to rent a car. Nothing wrong with that and last time I looked that isn’t that bad and it is an affordable amount, try renting a car from Enterprise or a contact hire company for that. Not the best car but actually it is still pretty reasonable. People waste £150 pm on all sorts of things like beer, KFCs, a pair of jeans. The only issue here is that if the car is written off unless there is GAP insurance (couldn’t see if he has it or not) then there could be some issues.

7)There are many other options he could have explored but would have probably ended up here anyway.

8)Take Mark, (Lucero), my mate splashes £30k on a BMW 530d, puts 6k deposit in, pays £350pm and still has to hand the car back after 3 years. Ok so it is a nice car and represents a small fraction of his earnings but its all money gone in depreciation etc. You guys don’t kick up a fuss over that one but in real terms it’s a huge cost / loss. Damn fine car though and looks great on his drive as its allways so polished and shiney.

Got swindled on a car by a girl at that? on a birds car? Nut removal tbh :p Sorry OP but your sheer determination to justify this horrendous purchase is comical. If it makes you feel better, an entire sixth form class just had a right laugh at this as i was browsing this site while repairing a pc there and the projector was on .:)

no it isnt

ever heard of this old fashioned thing called "only buying what you can afford"

The money he is currently ploughing into repayments could easily have been put into savings. He could then easily afford something for about £1500, and got exactly the same effect as he's got now.

The only way the clio is superior to the punto is age. He could quite easily have something that was newer than his punto for 6/7 months of his current finance agreement.

he would then A) not be in crippling negative equity and B) able to save some and possibly save for something eeven nicer. 3k and you could get yourself a phase 1 clio 172. If he buys the first car nice and low when its at the end of its depreciation, he wouldnt even lose much of his original purchase.

Whatever way you look at it, its a bad deal for him. Its not his only option

I agree with others, carcraft are created for people like this. People who only look at the monthly payment and work out if they can afford that from their wages, and pay attention to how much they pay total compared with the sticker price on the car.

Ironically it's idiots that kneel in front of Carcraft that will get this country out of it's present recession - and then in 20 years time the same people will put the country back into one!

Words fail me. Read page 1, will save the other pages for tonight with a bottle of beer, as I can tell it's gonna get a whole lot better. :D

A 10k 2005 Clio, brilliant.

Ah this thread has made me laugh. You've all echoed what I was telling him after he just bought the car :D. Fun times.
What he should have done (and was going to do) was, keep his Punto, save up 3k, come January time he could have bought a nice car which you could actually justify to pay.
I don't know what came over him, I found it amusing when he came round to my house and told me how much he got robbed XD!.

The first thing I said when I saw it: "Where are the pink wiper blades!?".

I understand your position. It still surely would have been cheaper to take out a high interest loan and then buy it privately, leaving a few hundred to cover any problems should they arise?
