*** Pictures of things we bought in May 2012 ***

Picked up a Dell U2410 today to replace my old Samsung 904BW and dedicate the Hazro 24" as a portrait monitor for reading magazines, websites etc. It's SO much nicer reading vertically I can't stress it enough!

Undecided yet on which one I prefer though, both are IPS but I've had the Hazro since 2008~ and am used to it's colours and glossy panel even though they're both calibrated to the same levels now there is a slight difference (matte vs glossy screen, LED backlight vs CCFL).

Still, for £250 it's pretty damn awesome for features and picture quality.

How comes you got it cheap?

Whooops! I was wondering wtf then and realised I’d made a mistake, I bought the U2412M not the U2410, I’ve had 2410 on my mind all week as I’ve been reading review after review before opting for the 2412M for the increased performance (half the input lag of the 2410) as I game as well as edit and the 12M is almost identical to my Hazro which is excellent in games.

I have just received a 2412M at work because one of my trusty 2007FPW died.

I'm loving the 2412 compared to the 2007, colours and brightness are just so natural and easy on the eye. 2007 seems so dim and lifeless now. Been using them for 5 years, I need the other one to break now so I can get a matching 2412. It feels like using my U2711 at home though, which is a good thing, just missing the resolution.

Yeah I'm finding the same too, at 120cd/m2 the Hazro has several years of usage time behind it so 120 doesn't quite look the same brightness as the 2410 does as it's brand new and uses an LED backlight.

It does make the Hazro the perfect portrait monitor though as reading stuff is that much more easier :p

I'm looking to replace my Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP, Is the U2412m a upgrade from my old monitor ??

Doesn't have HDMI

Yeah a bit of a weird omission but it has displayport and you could use a DVI<>HDMI adapter which costs a few quid or comes free with GFX cards I guess.

I don't connect HDMI to this anyway though (Hazro has HDMI) so not a bother :p

Stan_Lite. Shame on you. I saw a post of yours, and got excited to see what interesting whiskies you've bought. And then you show us bloody car batteries! Grr! :p

My apologies. I was saving that until Sunday :p
I'm off to a whisky tasting on Saturday night and will doubtless be making a few purchases. Hopefully I'll have time on Sunday morning to post the results before I head back out to Egypt for work.

In the meantime, here's one I bought on the way back from Egypt last week. Laphroaig PX Cask. It's a travel exclusive expression, matured partly in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. Tastes absolutely smashing :D Also got myself a new hip flask while I was at it - can't seem to locate my old one :(

That Glen Garioch is a seriously nice whisky by the way - as is Sonea Fifer's Jura.

The smokieness of Laphroaig with the stickiness of sherry? Should be awesome!

It wasn't my favourite of the night (was also at a tasting, 3 Auchentoshan's and three Glen Garioch's). The Glen Garioch 1994 (bottled in 2011) was awesome, though a bit above my price range. However I think the Auchentoshan 18 was the best of the night. A distillery totally overlooked by myself, which is a shame as they make some good stuff and it's Glasgow's local distillery! They are having a festival day in June which I'm hoping to get along to. Should be a nice day out.

You going to Stirling? Or is just a random tasting?

Please tell me you are driving.

:D

Or is that what the new suitcase is for?

No, driving as it really isn't feasible for a weekend visit although cruising at 155mph on the autobahn would be great. I’m saving that for another time.

The bag is for the trip and I’m on a two night jolly flying out on Friday and coming home on Sunday. BMW will still be with me as I am planning a trip to BMW Welt either on Friday afternoon or on Saturday. I will get a full day of sightseeing on Saturday as the game does not start until 20:45 local time. :D

Inazone 232 - £200 with neoprene spray deck, WAS as new, hardly a scratch on it until I took it down the welsh coast dodging rocks and landing on a gravel beach, oops!

inazone is the orange one, the corsica S is an old kayak but the girlfriend likes its "beauty on the water"....girls.

an upgrade on my mobile contract from an HTC Desire to the HTC One X, in white and the GF brought me the official white case for it :D

Also following on the car:

New Brake pads, Ball Joints, Tracking, 2 new tyres, new middle section exhaust and new engine mount and drive shaft bearing, Don't you just love cars!

I have a weakness for Islay malts matured in sherry casks - especially Laphroaig. As you say, the combination of the sweet, fruity sherry flavour and the peaty smokiness of Laphroaig is fabulous. My favourite ever was the 30yo Laphroaig which is sadly very difficult to get hold of now and very expensive as well :(

The 18yo Auchentoshan is very nice - as is the three wood. If I'm home when they have their festival day, I may well pop up for a look (and a dram or 2 ;)).

I'm going to a tasting organised by The Whisky Lounge. Never heard of them before this but it's being held at my favourite Newcastle restaurant so it's the perfect chance to combine 2 of my favourite things - good food and good whisky
