Pies!

Morrisons do scotch pies.

Be warned the ones from the "fresh" counter at morissons are rancid.

The scotch pies at Morrisons are Bells scotch pies (even the ones on the deli counter) and they're pants. I haven't had a really good scotch pie since I moved to Englandshire. There is a butcher in North Shields who do a half decent one but nowhere near as nice as I'm accustomed to :(

Haven't tried the scotch pie myself, but most of the pies from Morrisons fresh counter aren't very good.

The meat and potato pies at morrisons bakery counter are really nice, pretty packed as well but as said before Pukka are great and at a quid you cant go wrong.. As a matter of fact i had a All Steak one last night.. :D

Every time I go home I always make sure to grab a couple of proper scotch pies from the butchers, one of the benefits of coming from little scotland :D

I just tried the Pukka Chicken & Gravy microwave pie and it's ok for a quick snack but i wasn't overly impressed.

The pastry was rather dry and the chicken flavour was a bit strong to me.

Farm shops are usually ridiculously expensive and often have stupid ***** filling menus, but are generally better than most supermarket own brand/bakery pies.
A few on the shelves are pretty good, such as the aforementioned Higgidy.
Throughout all my travels in the UK, I've found that local butchers are universally the absolute best option for pies, be they traditional plain fillings like Steak & Kidney, or the exotic ***** ones like Guatemalan Sweet Potato and Syrian Leek with Himalayan Pink Rock Salt.

The only thing that trumps a butcher is learning to make your own, but while the results may be perfectly edible, they'll still be pretty janky until you get the finer aspects down.

I'm not sure I've ever had a Pukka pie, but I don't think I've ever heard anything good about them. Microwaves really aren't the way to be heating up pies either. Thanks for the necro though :D

Higgidy and Pieminister are decent, as already mentioned. I haven't had a pie in a while so might grab one next time I'm in the supermarket.

One little observation I never noticed until someone pointed it out to me. You know the Charlie Bingham pies that come with ceramic dishes? They reduced the size of the little dishes they come with so less filling. Very sneaky.

Will have to check out Pukka Pies!

If you've ever had a pie from a chip shop it will almost certainly have been from Pukka

When I was in my 20s and living on own I often had Fray Bentos pies, used to think they were great, will have to try one and horrify myself as to what I used to eat :p
