Pies!

Not sure about the more interesting fray bentos lines but the more standard tinned pies are quite acceptable for what they are and what they cost.

If no ones watching I rarely have one for novelty value.

only tried Pukka pies once or twice...thought they were on the same level as the Tesco own brand stuff

used to think Charlie Binghams steak and ale was amazing but thery're a bit rich, sickened myself of them...on the plus side got lots of little containers stacked up in the cupboard...will come in handy some day

fray bentos do smell a bit dog meaty ...:p

pukka pies are okay..nothing special . kinda you want a pie for tea and its sorta the its easy to get hold of so i will have one.

my local butchers do decent ones. its a good place to try if you cant find any where else locally.

Tried the Charlie Bigham ones at the weekend...good god. SO SO TASTY.

They were £7.75 for a pack of 2 at Tesco but the dishes they come in are decent and worth keeping. So its an investment. :p

When I was in my 20s and living on own I often had Fray Bentos pies, used to think they were great, will have to try one and horrify myself as to what I used to eat :p

When I was at uni I used to sometimes have one of those, emptied into a giant Yorkshire pudding with some veg thrown in, and the pastry lid placed on top. :D

The disappointment I feel when I order a pie at pub or restaurant and it comes as a casserole with a puff pastry lid is immense. I love a good pie but it has to be an actual pie!

Pieminister pies are amazing!

I have found them at the odd supermarket but for some reason never last.

This. Not cheap though. The veggie one is very good. I've been to a couple of their restaurants & not had a bad meal so I got a taste for them since. Not eaten one for a while though, I'll see if Morrisons or Waitrose have any on offer.

Don't start me on places that sell meat soup with a pastry top and call it a pie.

That is one of my biggest gripes when eating out. I actually got asked to leave one pub when I complained about my bowl of stew with a piece of pastry on top not being a two crust pie, as described in the menu.
