piledriver - Official AMD FX4300,FX6300 and FX8350 review thread

a 4+1 vrm board will be ok for mild overclock, so any of the 970s. £50-65

Spend a bit more and get 8+2 vrm with a 990x. £80-90
Spend a bit more and have a good 990fx excluding asrock 990fx ex3 its only 4+1 vrm. £100-120

Or get a cheap b stock z68 from here for £35 and then a sb, or ivy.

Recently took receipt of one of them Z68 boards for 35 quid, pretty good value for money.
Imagine if those 120 quid B-Grade 2600's come in stock.

You'd have a 2600 with Z68 board for 155 delivered :p

GTX 680.

I think anyone wanting monstrously raw performance should just save up for a 3930K, I just like playing new stuff mostly. :p

Yes exactly
PD doesn't have anywhere near the performance of chips such as the 3930K.
Anyone who wants high performance needs to look elsewhere.

There new and shiny and something to play with thats all.

edit: As to the playing I have my 8230 running P95 at 4.7Ghz
Temps are a bit high but it is hanging on in there.

yeh but 3930K is about £450 and the 8350 is like £160. So if you have £450 to spend on a cpu alone you wouldn't even be looking at a 8350.

Stop thinking this is as simple as a person choosing to build one PC on a budget.
This is an enthusiasts forum and a lot of the new PD owners here will have SB-E IVY etc already.
Mostly folks just want to play with the new shiny.

You're all forgetting the scenario where the 8320 is 25quid cheaper then i5s that can't be clocked at all.

Anyway, got my 8320 up to 4.6ghz so far (200x23). Temps still have a little headroom so hopefully I'll get 4.8 out of it and I'll be happy. I'll post up some benchmark comparisons against the 920 later. :)

Anyone know when the Piledriver CPUs will become available?

I was thinking of building a machine with an i3, but I'm drawn towards the FX6300 after seeing the reviews.

Any games along with that?
Also, who's our mutual friend, I'm confused :p

Tomorrow I'll get stuck into higher clocks. :D

Did you by any chance have crossfire ?

Above you only showed a single card.

Reason for asking is the biggest problem i found when using testing the older 8150 was when using dual cards.

With a single card it would be roughly the same as an Intel CPU but in SLI the performance was very low in comparison.

I will test my 680's just got to get them out of the game pc and find some dual 6 pins for PSU.
will post results up later.

BTW
I would respost smaller Heaven images.
A mod will likely delete them.

Oh yeah, this forum doesn't sort images like every other forum on t'internet.

I did have dual 5850s but swapped them for the 7970 at the start of the year.

I suspect your findings with sli will be as you think, the Intel set up will be faster.

I suspect your correct.
What i am looking for though is to see if PD has closed the gap any.
With the better IPC maybe there will be some improvement.

Ho Hum i seem to be talking myself into a 3 way test now.
FX8150, FX8320 and an intel 8320.

Heaven will do fine to show the difference.

Dunno like.
Heaven's extremely GPU intensive.

And I'm not going to go the other way and suggest an RTS that's CPU limited even on a highly clocked 2500k.

Few recent games perhaps? Borderlands 2/BF3 etc?

I'll do the heaven tests.
Results will surprise you

Not really up for a lot of gaming benches.
BF3 is hard to bench sensibly anyway.

The metro test maybe.
I swear that engine is broken.
Throw a ton of GPU power at it and it does 30fps !!

Lol, I know what you mean, I threw a 680 SLI at Metro.
Ready to be surprised though :p
