I was just looking through Anandtech bench and compared the FX6300 and Core i3 3220:

Under Windows 8 the FX6300 is faster than the Core i3 3220 in Skyrim and D3 using a GTX680.

Intels lack of clocking at the lower end forces you to go AMD (Be that Trinity variants or the FX's)

The bottom line is, if you looking for a cpu for predominantly gaming, these AMD cpu's are out.

One small wrinkle.
My Asus M5A99x is v1.0 which does not show the vishera CPU, whereas v2.0 does. Hopefully it is Asus being slow or just updating current models as they often do. My take would be a bios update from BD to PD should not be necessary but we will see how this goes. Will update info as I find it.

Asus haven't updated the CH IV yet either (If they ever do)

Given the launch price and it's performance improvements it seems pretty good. Only read the tom's hardware review so far but iit did quite well and as applications change in the future to utilise cores better it will age well. At this pricepoint it's targetting the i5's rather than the i7 and giving the i5 a bloody nose in many things.
And it'll be interesting to see if they're all such good clockers for those of us who like to push their hardware. Plus this will make the Haswell v Steamroller head to head very interesting. If SR can build on PD's gains and Haswell pull another modest improvement then that gap might come down again.
If you've got an AM3+ board but got shafted by bulldozer then this is the chip you were waiting for.

After overclocking an i7 (And the FX83), the difference won't be that great.
Like I said before, you're better off on a gulftown.
If you had an AM3+ board now, then sure for encoding it's brilliant price/performance.

It's not market leading but at the price point it's very competitive.
It's what the Bulldozer should have been.
