Plane geeks on the forums?

Id have to say im one, usually sundays im found down at heathrow taking pics of planes landing and taking off:p. Im also notorious for it when im in Toronto as well as i get together with a few lads down there and spend most fo the day there taking pics of various planes taking off and landing.
I also go to quite a few airshows over there, havent had the chance to go to any here.
But i do love planes, always have as a little kid....just a shame i never bothered to study hard enough as it was a childhood dream of mine to become a pilot of some sort.

Ever since I was a kid I have had facination with flight and in particular vintage aircraft but I can't be bothered with the "rivet counters" - does my head in. Since I got older the interest has got stronger as it fell off a bit once I discovered motorcycles, Rock music and that girls make your trousers lumpy.

I go through phases of interests that revolve round aircraft history, pooters and music - I left the bikes alone now as I don't get up off the floor as quick as I used to . At the moment I'm back on to the aircraft scene as I live within a stones throw of Farnborugh airfield and this week is show week.

Whilst I don't collect registrations, I do take photos.

I often listen in on coversations I hear between these "spotters" and reading Scuzi's post ties in with what I find......

It seems most of them don't work in aviation but think they know it all and when you confront them with alternative info, they dispute it.

That's exactly the type. I myself take a few photos for my collection, it's a rather intersting form of photography. It's the sad gits with the know-it-all attitude that annoy me and pretty much every spotter I have met has had that attitude. Maybe there's decent ones out there, I've just yet to meet them :p

They get my back up too Skuzi. I was sitting next to a pair of them in a cafe once. Both kitted out with poindexter attire, far too many watches on their wrist, and eating a packed lunch like a primary school kid.

Their conversation was in a high pitched tone as they were squabbling over something to do with planes. It was so lame..

All I remember from the conversation was when I listened in a burst out laughing to what they were saying:

Nerd 1: The ALR jet wasn't brought in until after our second research project.

Nerd 2: Yes it WAS! LAURUENCE STOP BEING STUBBORN, christ it's like trying to to do a full axis rotation when your pitch feedback display is inverted when I talk to you.

Nerd 1: Don't take that tone, anyway stop shouting, this meeting is classified.

Nerd 2: True, anyway shall we email robert and tell him about... .... project blackeye?

Nerd 1: We can't, his internet subscription has run out, he's at his Mom's, and we can't risk her hearing the secret plan.

Nerd 2: Do you want my lettuce, it makes me come out in a rash..

They were in their 30s.

Hey mate! Not seen you on msn for a while, hope everythings good. Yup still in Phoenix, CPL XC this week hopefully, if the weather lets me. Nice and clear but temps of 45c cancel flying, as do the afternoon thunderstorms :(

Are you at OAT?

I want to go there in a few years.

I'm a plane enthusiast.I don't see how it is geeky. Sure if you are always at the airport jotting down registrations then it is, but isn't that more about filling out your book rather than enjoyiong watching planes?

I spend most of my working day listening to airband frequencies :p
Probably for the best! :P

I'm not a big fan of plane spotters tbh. We had some at White Waltham taking photos of people landing. It put me under preasure during my landings dammit!

I hate that, I always get absolute greasers right on the numbers when no-one is around to see them ;)

Ahhh same here, always wanted to fly the F14 for the US Navy when growing up. Should have followed my dream as i was given the choice to go live with a family friend in the USA and they would have sponsored me in order for me to fly for the US Navy. Too much Top Gun i think, filled my head with the thoughts of being the next maverick:p.

Another one here, although I havent been able to enjoy watching any for a long time now with working most of the time. Still keep a keen eye on any aviation news, I was just about to see what info I could find on the new Airbus A350.

Another one here, I'm currently applying for jobs in aircraft maintenance with a large MRO such as Monarch, BAMC or Flybe.
I'm sure a few people on here would be glad to know that I'll be the person that changes that tire or replaces that flap on their aircraft that is about to take them on holiday :D

As above, I like taking photos of aircraft but taking reg's and serials down is not my cup of tea, sad gits that do it though :p

You'll be kept busy at MON with their ageing fleet and no sign of any new aircraft.

I wouldn't call their A330's and A321's old. Old to me is 742's and 732's :p

You seem to forget the 4x A300's and 7x 757's of which the 757's are some of the oldest flying in the world ;)
I know they have those aircraft, I was referring to the statement of 'ageing fleet' , Yet they have a selection of Airbus aircraft that are barely out of nappies in terms of age :p

CD, BB, BJ & NX are all quite old now but as you say, the rest are quite young. My bet is that they'll order the new A350XWB. I think the AB6's are next in line to go.
