I only saw them for the first time in Le Mans this year, seen a few in the UK now.

I don't know why it's so good watching them float away, it just is lol.

This incredibly likely theory will of course be busted the second someone admits to releasing one of these lanterns. Until then, the tin foil hats should remain on people.

The first time I saw these my house mate was yelling for us to come into the garden, and when we looked up there were hundreds of lights dancing around the sky...

We then took a walk into the street where everyone had gathered, left pubs to view them etc, and walking past heard people talking about war of the worlds etc....

Just shows how something so simple can have a huge impact when its alien to a culture.
