Planet Coaster

Can't see the problem with it, it just stops tampering with the executable files or something like that. So unless you wish to steal/distribute this game, what's the issue?

I for one am really excited for this game. I grew up on RCT/RCT2 and spent a good amount of time on RCT3. I've had the alpha of this game for a while but I'm not great with the sandbox mode due to my lack of creativity, but beta is today and I'm really looking forward to it.

Same, looking forward to the full game. :)

Beta is today if you bought the thrillseeker edition, main release is something like the 17th.

edit: Posted same time as danlightbulb

Just posted on Facebook 2 mins ago, beta is out! Say goodbye to the rest of my day in 5.7Gb time... :D:D:D

It might be worth pointing out that if you go to the game in your library and untick the sketchbook and soundtrack the download drops to 5.0gb saving ~700mb, and you can obviously get them later on, your just prioritising the core game itself.

I bought as I posted. Download started straight away. 20 minutes to download 5Gb, might get to start it up before work :)

20 mins? Impressive, though BT somehow managed to get my DL speeds from 0.8 to 2.6Gbps recently, though it feels stone age right now!

Yeah it was maxing out at 27.7 for me.

Performance appears good, more GPU bound now whereas IIRC the alpha was pretty CPU bound.

Management from the initial look seems pretty in-depth.

Steam store says "Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Antitamper"

Kinda worried now.

Could have been worse... LENSLOK!!

Seriously though, while it doesn't put me off buying it, the developer has a history of intrusive drm methods. Elite had the infamous lenslok, frontier followed it up having you type in a word from a page in a manual every 5 or so dockings (bought the game 3 times over) but still played the copy I had...

In truth you got the lesser of two evils, the new elite has you booted out the game the moment you don't sync with the always online method they use... denuvo certainly trumps that.

Braben was always going to go with the tightest protection, he's been 'very' vocal about piracy and secondary sales during the 30+ years he's been developing.

Personally I know not of the evils of denuvo, if there are any, I intend on buying PC when it releases, it's looked ace all along the way.

Completed the first campaign type mission a few hours ago, didnt really do too much building beyond what the goals asked and adding scenery. Figured i'd try challenge mode, but after loading in i didnt even do anything before giving up. It just felt exactly like the free alpha weekend and the little bit of creative building i tried on the pirate campaign map i scrapped pretty quick, and im just not feeling remotely creative. I'll do the desert mission tomorrow, i just didnt want to do both in a single sitting and then be in the situation im in now.

I think what the issue is is that the blank maps are just that, they're just flat plots of land, and it'd be nice if we had some mild landscape to build around, to inspire creativity. Basically something between sandboxes blank canvas and the campaign stuff being partially populated. Likewise if the campaign missions werent restricted rides, shops, props etc it might be fun, but 6 flat-rides, 2 coasters, 3 shops and limited props is not much fun.

Certainly enjoyed doing that one mission, and i'd hope theres maps and not just blank plots (though it doesnt look like it for release), and I also dont hold much hope for using shared savegames to get custom made maps, because i dont see a way around doing terrain editing and mild scenery without starting with unlimited funds... and i dont want that either.

Sadly its another build where im left feeling slightly disappointed having enjoyed watching lots of YT videos of others playing it, and not being able to get the same enjoyment when playing it myself. Im hoping that playing the full game with its missions will be fun and at the end of it hopefully i'll have made more of an effort to be creative and make use of the other modes.
I basically want a landscape, unrestricted items (rides, shops, props etc), basic starting funds and research to unlock 75% of those items.

If I remember correctly in all other theme park games you had to research new rides and attractions, as J Watts is on the team I think that's a surprise for release.

I might grab this tomorrow and if not deffo day one purchase for me. ;)

Theres research at the moment, its just that the only place that seems to have a pre-sculpted map is the career maps, and those beginner scenarios are still restrictive in what you start with and can unlock. The sandbox mode should have everything thats functional in the build, and challenge gives you the basics and lets you research the rest.

I'd just like to see challenge which had an interesting map to start with, rather than a flat blank canvas, or have to play career with its limited access to items for gameplay reasons.
