They introduced new laws regarding purchasing of televisions at the start of the year; if you have the inability to spell basic words such as you're or I'll then they aren't allowed to sell you a TV by law.

LCD now pwns Plasma.
This must have made OCUK loose a lot of custom.

...but, the benefits far outweigh the flaws of plasma sets. make no mistake, the biggest flaw of all lcd's today is their inability to resolve detail at the black end of the spectrum. i dont care what lcd lovers like to think, they are just no good at it.
I am confused. Majority of people in this thread have said LCD are better than plasma. I currently have a 32" Samsung LCD, which I feel is now too small. Looking to upgrade to a 50" Plasma. It was my understanding that plasma is much better at this size, blacks are black, whites are white etc.
Is this wrong?
I use my 360 a lot, would Plasma be rubbish for that?
LCD's are said to be better for gaming, whereas Plasmas are good for all purpose SD and HD stuff. The LCD would also be a lot cheaper for 50" than a Plasma would. Also at that size you would want 1080p and Plasmas currently cost a good bit for a 1080p one.

Having done a lot of reading I am not convinced I need a 1080p set at this time.
1 - I am on Virgin, not a great deal of HD channels at this time
2 - I don't plan to own a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player anytime soon
3 - 360, currently there aren't many that support 1080p, and when they do I don't think I will be that bothered. Ignorance is bliss and all that!
Like I said before a lot of gamers and pc users on here so you will naturally get a lot of praise for LCD, but you have done you research well, Plasma 50 is a good one to aspire to.
Even on a 50inch 1080p isn't really needed unless you want to futureproof and sit closer than 7-8ft to the set. A good set to aspire to would be the new panasonic PZ85 50inch. Itl be 1080p and Im not totally sure of the price of the new range, but 1300ish should cover it.
But I would advise you to pickup a PS3 as soon as possible even though you said you won't get one. Blu ray is the winner of the format war and here to stay, plus the dvd upscaling of the PS3 is simply excellent.Andmost importantly you will be missing out on feeding your HD tv, HD goodness.![]()
Burn in and plasma lifespan just put me off them.
