Plasma better than LCD right?

Can’t go wrong with the Samsung Plasma range, have the 50' Q97 model and its very impressive with top notch HD & SD picture, from my own experience and viewing I haven’t seen a LCD that matches the PQ of this set.

The life span is a myth these day I was looking at mine which is rated at 60,000 Hours most LCDs are around the same some less also burning isn’t much of an issue these days due to the different helping features on plasmas like Pixel shift etc, mine is at 89 contrast level and I have notice any screen burn in at all, the one that is more present is image retention example; watching a full football match will sometime have the score in the corner for a couple of minutes after the game this soon goes though and isn’t a big issue.

37 PX70 was panasonics last 37 plasma, the newer model for that size was LCD.

All other trends in the market have LCD as cheaper than plasma, HD ready and 1080p sectors.
 
I think your on the right track tbh, i bought the 42" samsung Q97 series for £620 very recently and the standard def picture wipes the floor with any lcd i've seen, the biggest advantage is the motion though which i absolutely hate on most lcd's but understand most people find acceptable.

I think i'd seriously consider an lcd if i had all the consoles etc, but for me right now standard def is what i'll be watching the most.

What would you be using it for? Try to steer clear of all the lcd vs plasma business. They both have pro's and cons so it just depends what your after.

Ive been thinking about this as gaming is what guided me to LCD, BUT plasma will give better motion resolution it seems, so you will have more detail when panning which is ideal for FPS games and then there is the issue of input lag on LCD's which essentially adds to your ping and puts you at disadvantage with what your seeing.

With plasma now sorted the burn issues pretty much I think the only place LCD benefits is it uses less power. :o I think I would have been better getting a PX70 rather than my M86.
 
I have a plasma and an lcd, and I would choose an lcd over a plasma everyday.

Is screen burn normal on plasmas? Cos its very very annoying. Mines a 50" samsung and its only a month old but gets screen burn with certain channels, where the logo just stays there in the corner!?
 
Try turning the brightness down a bit. For some unknown reason a lot of manufacturers set the brightness of their screens higher than really necessary. Oh, and it'll reduce your electricity bill too.

Old plasmas were really prone to screen burn and could be permanently damaged. Newer ones show the effects but are usually cleared up by displaying a non-static image.

I think top-end LCDs have pretty much closed the gap with top-end plasmas now, especially with 100Hz-capable LCDs. For the budget-conscious consumer LCD has mostly been king for some time (as much as cheaper LCDs suffer from ghosting and other motion-related issues, I don't think I'd wish a cheap plasma on anyone).

For small screen sizes you have no choice really, it's LCD all the way.
Personally I see it like this. Assuming you want a 40"+ TV, and as long as you don't want to use it for any significant PC use (in which case LCD is the way) then plasma is the way to go.

At the high end there's no question that panels like the Kuro Pioneer beat all hands down for SD and HD, but even at the lower range, panels like the Panasonics do an equally good job of HD as LCDs, whilst having better SD handling.

The last point is important I think as most people still spend a hell of a lot of time watching SDTV. And that is where LCDs still don't quite perform imo.

Well try not to leave tv channels on soo long early in its life, and as said before turn down the brightness and contrast settings, as that certainly contributed. And are you even sure you have sceenburn and not image retention which is where the image will stay there for a while but not permanently.

I haven't even seen screenburn on plasmas in showrooms yet, so I think you have done something wrong or just got a defective set. A good plasma tv is still leaps and bounds ahead of LCDs. Even with console gaming, my plasma blows away the LCDs I tried with a much more realistic colour palette and smoother motion handling.

Please if your going to come and comment, don't just come in here because you own an lcd or plasma and go 'IS THA BEST 1111111111111111111111 BCOS I SOOOO HAPPY WITH IT'. Make sure you have actually tested other tvs methodically with similar shows / the same film discs, and actually set the others up properly. AS in a showroom, i say time and time again, they have max brightness, colour, contrast, and all other image processing crap which will make most tvs look awesome, but some people might think these traits are actually how a picture is supposed to look.

Lots of people here seem to be hailing LCD without any good stuff to back it up.

just because you may own one, it doesnt make it the best.

Pioneer kuros are the best flat screens available, followed by the panasonic pz range. (which is being updated in the coming months).

Youd be foolish not to consider current plasmas. Ask a shop to demo two screens you fancy, and make them use a direct feed. then you will see that plasmas offer a better picture in most cases.

screenburn isnt much of an issue as long as you are careful for the first few hundred hours
 
CRT projection rules for picture quality- superior than LCD and plasma, although a high end DLP can be very good, with excellent blacks.

CRT direct view is dead, but CRT projection isn't.

Truth. Also if you keep your brightness down as mentioned earlier. It's really not necessary to have it as high as they are in the showrooms, nowhere near in most cases. I think ours is on around contrast 68 and brightness 48 - got the info off the AV forums and the picture's ace.

We have a 42" Samsung Plasma and I was really surprised how good the TV picture is in comparison to LCDs of similar size. I just didn't expect that difference in picture quality. As said earlier though it's down to what your main use will be and your personal preferences. That's how we chose and I couldn't be happier with it :)

True, buying a CRT TV is a wrong & bad move a projector on the otherhand isn’t I would love playing my 360 on a massive screen 20+ft :D


Contrast on plasmas is a bigger killer than brightness from my experience.
