It was nothing to do with Ukraine or Covid though, so why would they be mentioned. As important as they both are, not sure either of them are the biggest incidents over the past 70 years. There have been *many*, which is really the point - not the topics of the day.
Yeah, why make it political when it's a celebration of enduring service. Totally unrelated.

Like many others here I also watched the show - here's my thoughts:

There were high points and there was also low points!

I'm not going to lie, having seen Hans Zimmer just a few months back in Manchester I was really excited to see what he would bring to this . . . . . .
Remember this guy has been described as one of the world's top 100 living geniuses and last night he was nothing more than a Stevie Wonder look a like / support act - honestly is that the best we've got?

Rod Stewart had potential but then he dropped into a Neil Diamond classic - Now I'm a HUGE Neil Diamond fan but if anyone is going to embarrass themselves on a world stage it's going to be a has-been Scottish singer who doesn't quite realise he's past his sell by date and he isn't even fit enought to lace up the shoes of Mr Diamond

Surprise of the night for me was the phenomenal light show and the drones that were (well rehersed) and backdropped onto the stunning sunset and the Palace. Alicia Keys (not my cuppa tea) done really well with a lovely medley and she carried it well throughout. Elton John gave the impression it was so well edited that there was simply no point in turning up!

The young 21 year old lass (that didn't mime) was simply outstanding!

As for the finale, well let's lead on to the stage a 70+ year old American singer and get her to lip sync before presenting everone with a the rather abrupt end!

- Bocelli is incredible as always, wish there was more of him.
- I enjoyed Queen + Adam Lambart but he sounded much better when I saw him live a few years ago.
- Elbow = Amazing.
- Duran Duran = Good Fun.
- Lion King = Brilliant.
- Everything else = Dog****

Is the xenophobia really necessary? Not to mention the fact the guy was born and raised in London...
A rendition of 'Maggie May' would have been far better and he has sung it at every concert and at least ten thousand times, he would not mess up the words. With Ronnie Wood on (toilet seat) guitar complementing the statuesque super blondes maybe :D

The military band backing up most of the acts deserves a huge hand in my opinion. All styles, all tempos, not a note wrongly placed.

What annoyed me most was Alicia Keys singing about New York. No, love, you’re in London!!! She could have done a piano version of The Clash’s hit.

Tbh she did change the lyrics at the end which was a nice touch. I'm not a fan but she put on a good show imo.

What bothered me most was getting Rod Stewart to murder Sweet Caroline. Surely getting Neil in wouldn't be such a big ask for royalty

All in all it was worth a watch. The projection mapping and drones were top drawer

I'm confused by the messaging of the narrative; the choice of songs they sang and the decision to omit certain lyrics but keeping "Girl is on fire", "burn down the house" but removing "till the day I die" (or words to that effect). Are these really our go to songs for celebrating 70 years?

I think London calling would have been a bit edgy/brexity

Charles is better known for speaking about the environment than Wil, and could have spoken more passionately on it, but best to divide up the subjects so that charles could speak more personally of his Mum

what do you think they are ? cuban missile + vietnam were other contenders when I made the comment neither of which impacted us so much, the Wall maybe, but we are back to square one there.

still haven't seen technical details of the drones used.

Just seen a short clip of the drones displaying the corgi, haha looks amazing!

Is there a link to see the whole show, I can only find snippets of mobile uploads.

A song that might have been good at the concert, singing about people/events through history, Billy Joel's We didn't start the fire.

Not heard him sing recently, so whether it would have been another case of Rod/Diana if performed by him, well past their sell by date.

I would like to have seen Wet Leg perform over someone like Mimi Webb given there success but I guess you have to take what you can get. I'm not a fan of Craig David but I did enjoy his performance and it was good to see him although it seems like I haven't heard anything from him since 2001.

Craig David never recovered from Bo Selecta (you’ll have to google it if your not old enough to remember)
